There are only few reason why this happens.

1) You Hard drive is not getting detected properly, you need to open the Chassis/ Cabinet and make sure the cables are properly connected to the Hard Drive. Restart the computer and see if it comes again.

2) Your Hard Drive has gone bad. Needs a replacement.

3) The operating system on the computer has gone corrupt. (Chances for this reason are less)

Note: When you are checking the cables make sure the computer is powered off.

Shrey

I was told press F2 simultaneously on startup, nothing happened

You need not to press F2 or tab or escape unless you need to do so. If your system is ok, it'll automatically boot up, but if there's boot up problem with your system, then that's different. Thanks for using FixYa.

How do I acces the Bios on a Compaq Presario 5000 built somehere around 2002.

during the bootup post routines you should see a message that tells you what to do to go into the bios.

Sometimes the post routine is run without being shown on the screen. If so, try pushing the F2 button, or DEL key during the bootup sequence.

Good luck!

Asus m2v won't boot

Press delete to go to setup. In the boot menu tab of the BIOS make sure the correct boot disk is selected, and that hard disk boot has first priority. Also make sure there aren't any bootable disks in the cd/dvd drives that might prevent the computer from booting.
