1 Answer

Hello, I have a Sherwood RX-5502 and currently have a pair of 8Ohm speakers hooked up to the SPEAKER A terminals. Can I hook up a pair of 4Ohm speakers to the SPEAKER B terminals without issue from the receiver?

The statement on page 7 might allow enough wiggle room for a single pair of 4-ohm speakers used alone. Procede with caution and don't try to blow the walls down with them. Monitor for excessive heat or strain and if it clips or self-protects back off.

I do not know how to hook up the speakers to the back of a sherwood RX-5502

You untighten those connections, i mean really untighten them then you will see that there is a whole that you can feed your wires into once you have unscrewed those inputs far enough.

Unable to connect speaker wires to back of Sherwood 5502 receiver (no way to get them toi stay in)

If you unscrew the red and black knobs a few turns you will expose a small hole that is drilled through each post. Insert the twisted bare wire end into the appropriate hole and tighten the black or red knob to secure it.

Or get connectors as in this article...

I have a sherwood RX 4109.....can i hook a pair of 6 ohm speakers and then a powered sub?

By design, yes for one pair of 6-ohm speakers used at a time; depends on the sub for the second BUT there is no way to control its volume at the Sherwood.

Cables between sources and compatible units rarely need to be physically modified.

Splicing headphone outputs designed for nominal 8-ohm impedance speakers to a 47K-ohm (typical) RCA load is not a good idea but it might work on the Sherwood because this receiver does not automatically silence your other speakers when the headphone jack is installed.

There is NO other volume-controlled output to choose. Try it.

Sherwood RX-5502 receiver - get no sound.. checked polarity - OK... replaced speaker wire - OK... checked speakers on another device - OK.... tried phono and tuner and cd player - no sound with any........

Hi,

After doing all this troubleshooting on your receiver, Check if master volume on the surround levels are too low. Adjust master and surround level.

There may aIso incorrect selection of the input source. Select the correct input source.

If after doing this the problem still continue, it means the sound ic in the receiver is damage. the sound ic brings out the sounds from the receiver. You will have to open the receiver to locate the sound ic in the receiver and use the multimeter to read capacitors and change the damage ones.

Thanks for using Fixya.

CORRECT CONNECTION TO AMP BEING A FOUR TERMINAL SPEAKER

Hello i_starling,

The Kicker L7's come in either 2ohm or 4ohm dual voice coil (DVC) versions.

Whatever amp they are connected to, you need to know both the impedance of your L7's and the impedance of your amp. The L7's dual voice coils can be wired to provide a total of four different loads:

2ohm coils in parallel = 1ohm load
2ohm coils in series = 4ohm load
4ohm coils in parallel = 2ohm load
4ohm coils in series = 8ohm load

Your best connection would be the one that results in a final impedance load that is supported by the amp.

Hope this helps.

Can i kook up 4ohm dvc sub to a kac-x810d amp?

No, the sub is dual 4ohms...meaning if you parallel the positive speaker terminals and the negative speaker terminals you will have a 2ohm sub. Conversely, if you series the pos and neg you will have an 8ohm sub. if you wirte to just one set of terminals on the sub you will have a 4ohm sub.

you may be using an equalizer? try to pop-up the volume with all tone controls in flat mode. see if it still cuts off. if this is the first time youencounter this then something must be wroing with either your speakers or your amp. unless your ventilation is not good enoughg, you can also try placing a blower on top of your unit to cool it down

Yes you can,,,,,BUT the output labelling on the AMP will tell you where you can connect the 4ohms or the 8ohms....please read these labels and connect the 4ohm speakers to the 4ohm terminals, and the 8ohms to the 8ohms terminals...

If you intend to connect the 4ohm and the 8ohm speakers in parallel then the output impedance terminals you use should be the 4ohm ones.

If there is no labelling showing any 4ohm output terminals then its best if you dont use the 4ohm speakers at all....just connect the 8ohm to the 8ohm terminals...you dont mention any crossover networks inside the speaker boxes or if you have tweeter speakers... so just stick to the basics above at present....

What type of car is it? You can purchase speaker harnesses at any car audio shop that will allow you to snap into the factory plugs. Also, beware if your system was designed for 8 ohm speakers - using 4ohm speakers instead could cause some problems. Most aftermarket stereos are designed for 4ohm speakers, but some factory stereos designed for 8ohms could be damaged if you give them a smaller ohm load.
