no problem ya sony doesn't have a auto detect and reset for the audio/video cables so it needs to be reset via that way the only other way you could do it is hook it up via hdmi again and then go into the display settings and set it over to A/V cables

My ps3 console signal isn't working but the sound works but there is no signal! not even a hdmi cable works help!

Try these tips to fix the so-called "black screen of death".

Tip 1: The main reason of HDMI black screen problem due to HDMI cable may be damaged and not properly connected to the PS3 console. Please follow below step to troubleshoot PS3 HDMI cables problem:

1) Restart your PlayStation 3.
2) Look for loose cables.
3) Try to unplug all cables except the power cord, and plug them back in. If you found out that your HDMI cable is damaged, borrow a friends cable and try it. If your friends cable works fine, and the black screen error disappears. Then you can buy a brand new HDMI cable for a replacement.

Tip 2: Only try as last resort. There is a possibility you'll lose all data on your PS3's hard drive. If tip 1 didn't work, you will need to go a step deeper and reset your console. Most PS3 gamers are not aware that Sony actually included a black screen of death troubleshooting method and other HDMI problems in the PS3 manual, you can find it under the troubleshooting section - topic "console reset".

If you do it correctly, the console reset fix will allow you to reset back your PS3 to its default HDMI settings without impacting your gamer profile, and other storage data on the hard drive.

You will need to perform the following steps:

1. Place your PS3 in stand-by mode.
2. Hold down the touch power button until a series of beeps are heard.
3. Listen for one long beep, followed by two shorter beeps.
4. Release the power button.
5. Follow the instructions on screen.

If it works you should be good to go.

My ps3 is connected to hdmi cable and nothing shows on the tv, what is wrong with it?

I get this problem quite often, but it's typically not a problem at all. Usually it's that the console is set to the wrong video settings. In other words it's still trying to output to A/V or Component cables.

It's a simple fix; turn the console off, then hold down the power button until it beeps twice. That second beep means the video settings will reset, and hopefully you'll see it show up on the television screen.

If that doesn't work, it's possible the HDMI cable is faulty, so I would either test the cable or borrow one from a friend that you know actually works. If it is the cable you can get them pretty cheap online (on Amazon, for example).

Unfortunately if you're still not getting anything you may be in for a more expensive fix. Test the HDMI ports on both the PS3 and TV (use some HDMI product on the tv, and connect the PS3 using HDMI to some other working television). If it's the PS3, Sony offers some pretty thorough support on their website (here). If it's the television either go with the included component or composite cables or find yourself a new TV (sucky, I know, but they're a lot cheaper these days for a decent sized one).

If you've confirmed it's the PS3 console that's the issue (the HDMI port is faulty or something like that), again switch to component/composite cables. If you must have HDMI you could always send it in for repair (linkage here). If you're still under warranty I believe they'll repair it for free. Otherwise you're looking at some fees ($100-ish I think). Either way it's one hell of a wait time; 3 weeks minimum.

I sincerely hope it's simply a matter of resetting the video settings though.

Best of luck!

I was playing my PS3 and moved it from my tv upstairs to my tv downstairs. After plugging my PS3 in my tv downstairs, on which it had worked just 1 week previously, my tv picked up no signal from my PS3....

Try this.

Plug your PS3 on either TV. Turn on the backswitch. When the red light in front is on, put your finger on the on/off button in front AND KEEP IT THERE. You will hear some beeps; don't worry about that. Keep your finger on the button until the front power light goes red again. This resets the PS3 video settings. Turn the PS3 on and the TV should pick up the signal.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted.

I took my PS3 to a friends and we used an HDMI cable to hook it to his tv and when he brought it back to my house and now it wont work, i use the red ywllow and white audio/video plugs. why wont my...

hey, when you used the HDMI cable at your friends place, the PS3 display got set to 1080p. to bring it back to standard definition (red, white, yellow wire), follow these steps.

turn off you TV and PS3

turn on your TV

With your PS3 turned off, press and hold the Power button on the front of the PS3 for about 10 seconds (the system will beep as normal as it starts up but after 7-10 seconds it will beep again). The video settings should now be reverted. Doing this will also reset any theme settings.

Now you should be able to see your PS3 menu on the TV.

Happy to help :)

I have a HDMI problem with my PS3. I have it

You will need to turn on the PS3 and hook it up with rca so you can access the console menus. Turn it on and get to the main dashboard. 1. Go to Settings -> Display Settings (not video) 2. Select [ Video Output Settings ] 3. Select HDMI 4. Select Resolution 5. Select Screen Size 6. Save the settings 7. Reboot the console. This should resolve the problem. We've seen PS3 consoles that would not reset by performing a hard reset. We were able to resolve this issue through the settings menu though. Let me know if it is still giving you issues.Hank GATpro Repairs

Hdmi doesnt show picture

a few things to check. 1) does the TV tune to the appropriate HDMI port? If not then it isn't detecting a signal from the PS3. In that case you may not have HDMI output turned on. If you can reconnect the A/V cables then go to the system menu to display and set the output correctly. Start with 720p and work your way up to make sure you don't set it to a resolution that your TV can't handle. If you don' have the A/V cables then boot into safe mode and reset to default. This will reset the PS3 to out of the box settings (no data lost).

Ps3 plays audio but does not show image on tv

Well you can just use the hdmi cable if you're going both audio and video in to your tv. With your hdmi cable you get the best quality for both.

But in anycase, it seems that your PS3 is set up to output video via HDMI cable. To reset our video output settings, simply power down your PS3 (turned off) and hold down the power button until you hear the second beep. (around 5-10 secs) Power back up and hopefully you'll have video via your av cable. Hope this helps.

4.Turn OFF PS3 if it is ON.
5. hold [I/O] Power button on PS3

7. Configure the HDMI output for the PS3

Also, If you set the PS3 to "auto" for hdmi, it may set the resolution to 1080i. You may want to deselect everthing but the 1080P.
