Amana ARB9058CS Bottom Freezer - tremendous frost build-up in freezer on left side near ice maker at top of drawer

Refrigerator is about four years old. Suddenly the water from the dispenser has stopped (filter recently changed, button held down for three minutes, makes noise as if water should be flowing, but no water), and in the last three days, suddenly, a tremendous amount of frost has built up in the freezer, on the top left hand side (near to the ice maker, near to the door). We thought the seal became bad, but it appears to be the way that it always was....any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I own the Amana ARB9058CS (since 2003) and recently had both the water dispenser and ice maker stop working. In the process of checking things out I noticed two things: 1st the refrigerator section was freezing the produce. 2nd the ice maker was making a sound like a gate creaking, this sound was continuous and was the first thing to catch my attention. I took the advice from the 1st solution Posted 10-16-08 and used a hair dryer on the lines behind the produce drawers and in about 5 minutes or less I was getting water from the dispenser but the ice maker kept making the creaking sound so I turned the hair dryer on it and in about 7 minutes the noise stopped and the 1st batch of ice came out an hour later. The root cause of my problem was the temperature control knob on the left upper part of the freezer compartment, which is literally out of sight. A bad place to put a control knob because you can rotate the knob by bumping it when you place items in the freezer. The knob on my freezer had rotated in this manner almost to maximum freezing, thereby creating the problem above. Solution: Pull the knob off & keep it in the butter keeper or on one of the door shelves.

  1. I am not expert but this exact same thing happened to me - same model of fridge. The line which brings water in is frozen. I don't know how to solve it permanently, but if you take out the two produce drawers you can see where the water comes through. Put a hair dryer blowing on it for a few minutes and it will get it going again.

Ice maker ice jam

Not a whole lot you can do but to keep the frost down.
If you are able to move the items in the freezer to another freezer and let it sit overnight, all your problems will melt away....
Until a couple months later when it builds up

Make sure to double check your freezer is sealing correctly, bad gasket causes moisture to be sucked in.

Here are some basic ways to slow the buildup

Samsung rf266aepn bottom french door ice maker arm

Simple but a pain. Unplug the refrigerator. Get out your hair dryers and start de-icing the freezer door. Slowly but surly you will get freezer open. Be gentle. Dry EVERYTHING!!! Tracks, rails.....then replace part, plug back in, restock.

Frost is building up in bottom freezer. Appliance is running nonstop. I believe that the freezer drawer has been shut completely. Foods in refrigerator section are fine; foods in freezer section are...

Frost can build up for multiple reasons. Most common is the start os an iceblock. Other reasons can include condensation from door being left open or opening too much. It can also happen from backsplash from the inlet tube for the ice maker. If the fridge is running non stop. It sounds like the ice block is forming and the temps are not getting to the program temps. If at factory setting the freezer should be at or around 0 degrees and fridge should be between 42 and 48 degrees. Has the fridge shutdown at all to go into defrost? The defrost timer may have went out and is causing an iceblock. If there is an ice block always change bimetal/ defrost thermostat.

Freezer building up with frost

Sounds like the defrosting system has a faulty timer/board, faulty heating element or bad electrical connections to these components.

The adjusta cube ice maker has an on/off switch. To stop the ice from overfilling and being knocked off when you open the freezer door turn the ice maker off and then back on as needed.

Frig not cold but freezer is ice maker not making much ice either

Is your fan blowing in the freezer? Frost on the back wall of the freezer usually indicates a defrost problem... defrost themostate, heaters, take back panel off and check evap for frost build up and if your fan in working.
