Question about Zenith BZEN280 Remote Control

1 Answer

Stuck in video mode

I have a 1996 Zenith TV, Model SYS738RK, Serial 681-24422391. I am by many standards an old lady who has no patience with contraptions. I wanted to change the channel in a dimly light room and somehow pressed buttons I shouldn't have and now my screen only shows "video" in the upper right hand corner. I have tried every button to get out of it, shut off the power, unplugged the TV, and still am stuck in video. Can you help me get out so I can watch the Olympics?

You switch your tv between video and tv ....hit again the key tv/video once. That's it.
if you have a VCR or digital box remember that yout TV must be always set it up on channel 3
(put this manually on your tv)

This will fix your problem.

Check the LOT (Line Output Transformer) too for damage. Replace the horizontal scan output transistor. Check the input voltage to LOT. If the voltage is absent check the feeder resistor; if any. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.
Type in this key phrase " my service table today " in the search box at the top right of the display window, to get gathered some pages which has the details of practical experiences to the author of that site.

How can i find out more information about older zenith t.v. ?

IF you have the serial number you should find the model number.
The model number is essential for getting more information. One trick is to put 'old Zenith TV images' in Google. You will get lots of pictures. Find the pictures of yours and some will have the model number stated. From there you can do search on that model number. You should be able to locate manuals, etc.

Tvs are wired differently these days. Your old Zenith for example probably had a selector switch that allowed you to change from internal or external speakers, bandpassing the audio from the internal amplifier to the audio out connectors. Your Sharp on the other hand may be controlled by customer menu to perform the same function as the external switch. Go into the menu and sub-menu of the audio and see if it gives you any choices for selecting internal or external speakers... If it doesn't it probably will not bandpass the already amplified signal, which means if you want to listen to your Tv on those external speakers you'll first have to pass the audio sample through an amplifier.
Hope this helps.
