Hi there.. Regarding with your issue, one of the possible reasons why is that the printer is saying that it's because there might be a big chance that there is something wrong with the scanner bulb of your printer that can lead into a hardware failure.. now here's the document that you will need to follow to resolved the issue.
open this link:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00587971&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=421991&tmp_track_link=ot_search#N82

now after doing all the steps on the website and if it didn't help, then do a semi full reset by unplugging the power cord from the back and then press the # and the number 6 at the same time while the power is off..after a few seconds reconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while still holding those buttons up until you see something on the screen of the printer saying "nvm reset" something like that..
but still after doing a reset and it didn't fix the problemthen the printer is having a hardware failure or in other words it become faulty.
if you have any questions, dont hesitate to reply on this message..
Goodluck!!!

How do I solve the "scanner failure power off and on again" message for an h.p. 6110 officjet all-in-one printer/scanner/fax?

Hi Paul,

Scanner Failure usually results in Hardware Failure. However there is one step you can try. Try connecting the printer directly to wall outlet or any other power outlet and the issue should be resolved.

My HP Photosmart C5240 will print from computer but will not scan or make copies.

Is there any error message displayed on the control panel of the printer just like one of the following:
Scanner failure, power off and on
Scanner System Failure
Scanner failed, cannot make copies or fax
Scanner failure. Unable to scan, copy, or send a fax
Scanner failure, cycle power

You may want to try following these steps:
1. Check if the scanner light does turn on when you initiated the scanning process, if not you need to reset the product.
2. Try using your other electrical outlet because your AVR or Surge Extension may not be providing enough voltage for the printer.
3. Try using dirty cycle, meaning you need to directly cut the power of your printer by pulling of the power cord from the rear side of your printer and wait for about 30 seconds before inserting again and turn it on.

If all these steps do not improve your printer functionality, you may want to call the HP online help and ask for replacement.

My cx3200's control panel reads scanner error. I unlocked the transportation lock, turned off, turned on. It stayed off for about 2 minutes then came right back on. While the error light was off tried to...

The only things that can cause a scanner error on this unit is a complete scanner harware failure or the scanner lock. With the unit on lock the transport lock and unlock it a few times quite forcibly. Then leave it in the unlocked position and power off and on again. If the light returns then at his point I think a new printer will be needed.

Error 50 c

  1. Power off your printer.
  2. Use both hands to lift up the scanner unit until the scanner support holds it open.
  3. Turn the printer on. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the printer is busy.
  4. Remove the color print cartridge.
  5. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
  6. If the error message reappears, replace the black print cartridge with a new print cartridge.
If it does not repeat steps 1-3 and then go to step 7.
  7. Reinstall the color cartridge and remove the black print cartridge.
  8. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
  9. If the error message occurs again, replace the color cartridge.
  10. If an error message reappears, repeat steps 1-3 and reinstall both print cartridges.
Hope this helps.
  1. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
  2. If you receive the error message again, replace both cartridges.

My HP Officejet 7410 All-in-One keeps giving me the error message - Scanner failure - Turn power off then on. Turning power off then on, even disconnecting power cord, repeatedly does not solve problem.

Our HP Officejet L7780 displays the "Align Printer" message and then does it automatically wasting several sheets of paper aligning, then the next time we print a page the same message comes back. Is there a way to turn off the "align Printer" message. It is printing ok otherwise.
