look inside the little slot where the card reader is and see which way the pins are oriented if there on the top or bottom then line up the contacts on the adapter so when you put the card in they touch. but first MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER CAN USE THAT SANDISK ADAPTER you don't want to go putting things into your computer that where never ment to go there you can severe damage to your computer.

This is a common problem with MP3 players with almost a full memory. Apparently, the firmware gets messed up and eventually losses recognition of its purpose or some of the files it keeps.
