What can have happened is that through an overflow of used coffee the hole in the back is stuffed with the ground used coffee. The way to solve this is getting out the brewing group and rinse the hole with water after removing the cloggin coffee residu. You can find this hole just beneath the outgoing axle.

There are no screw to be removed, you have to take off the plastic ring in the water inlet. Take a screw driver and set it between the chassis and the water inlet.
you have to replace the gasket in your water inlet, if you look where the inlet is you will see there are a little gap between the chassis and the inlet.
Take a screwdriver and bend up the plastic, you will now see the gasket.
It would be cheaper to check the thermostat and heating element first and the wiring continuity, although I am not sure if you can find the replacement parts. If you can't, then it looks like you have no choice but to replace the entire assembly.
