We're using our d-link wireless router and have tried adding a new computer. When I enter our password/network key (10 digits) it will say that it is connected, yet when I go back in, the password is only (7 digits) and it never connects to the internet unless I tell it to disconnect and then reconnect. We've tried changing it through "Network Connections" but it never saves the correct password/network key. I know that I've had this problem in the past and there was another way of putting it in where it saved the full/correct network key but don't remember how to access it. Any help would be much appreciated. Vicki Walchuk

SOURCE: changed router to airport extreme - no connection

bayoubill:
I am sure that Airports are WPA compatible. You manually put in the key of WPA or WPA2 in the router itself (in your case since you changed the router so please put in the key onto your aiport) make sure that this key matches the key onto the clients workstations or laptops.
Let me know.
Thanks

SOURCE: wireless secured network key code

Hi BabyDoll - to find your key, log in to your router. Enter 192.168.0.1 into your browser. If the defaults haven't been changed, the user is " admin" all small case without the quotes. There is no password. Just enter the user and leave the password blank. To get the key, click on the wireless button on the left. Then look down the page and you'll see the passcode fields. This is what you're looking for. Also take notice of what's above it such as WPA, WEP, etc. Write this info down. You can also go into your pcs that you use wireless on and put that key in and the kind of security (WPA, etc) so that it will not ask for it every time.
If this solves your problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. If not, DON'T RATE YET. Let me know what happened and I'll be happy to assist you further. If you need to know how to enter the info so that you won't have to enter it all the time let me know. I'll help you with that. Let me know what happens. Thanks.

SOURCE: Internet connection lost when wireless printer added to network

for reseting the password of ur dlink router u have to press the rest button on the dlink router (genrallyit on the bottom or on the back of the router it is like a hole u have to use a pen or pin to reset the router back to its factory default settings after that password of the router will automatically back to admin or password login to ur router change the settings to static ip in the router so that u can provide the static ip of the other router to ur this router (example if primary router HL 2170 ip address is 192.168.1.1 then u will provide this dlink router the ip address as 192.168.1.5, subnet 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.1.1 primary dns 192.168.1.1 now save the settings in the dlink router now the ethernet cable from ur other router will go directly in to the internetor wan port of this router. now connect wirelessly to any router both will work fine without any problem

SOURCE: d-link DIR-635 router

How I have solved my problem with the wired computer to a DIR-635 router:
- downloaded latest firmware from ftp.dlink.de/dir-635/driver_software (as posted here before)
- reset the router ( keep just the power cable connected to the router, press the reset button and switch off/on while holding the reset button pressed, off/on again with reset pushed down, release reset button, connect LAN cable between PC and router, access router 192.168.0.1 and all the configuration using the wizards)
- while configurating your Internet connection (I have the wizard option) it is important to use the option "clone MAC address from your PC", the one you used to connect direct to the cable modem.
- Follow next common steps to configurate your wireless network, etc.

Right now I'm having my PC wired to the router plus three other desktops via wireless and a wireless Canon printer.
Everything is working fine, no network drop, no internet drop. Perfect as it used to be.

SOURCE: D-Link Wireless Router WBR-1310, Version A1

I had the same problem.

Make sure you turn off all the security with the software in package then slowly turn it all back on, on piece at a time. For whatever reason, it comes with MAC address filtering already turned on, which makes it impossible to see if you don't have the right info put in to the computer that the router was configured with.

Iphone 4s will not accept password to d-link di-524

Some later model wireless routers have the Password(ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router andthis information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adaptersin your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit yourrequirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorizedaccess. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cablefrom your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computerand enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login andpassword and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID andEncryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 togenerate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born inJanuary 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. To connect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop,configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wirelesssettings ie SSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptopscan communicate with your wireless router.

I don't remember my network key,so I cannot use it

Try to connect you computer with an Ethernet cord. If the Internet is working check the default gateway of the computer by typing "ipconfig" on the command prompt. Type the default gateway on the address bar. There you will see the login page for your wireless router. Check the default username and password from the router's manual and enter it. If it accept the user name and password, look for the wireless settings, password should be seen there. If not create a new one. If default user name and password doesn't work reset the router. There should be a reset button or pinhole on the back of the router. Press and hold it for 10seconds. Try again typing the default gateway on the address bar then re enter the default user name and password. If it work your router now do not have a network key (unsecured). You can create a new network key on the router's configuration page.

How do I find the current passworsd?

In order to get the password key we need to login to the router's page using any computer which is physically connected to router. Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router so as to check the network key:

1. Open a web browser like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari.
2. Access the router's GUI by typing 'http://192.168.1.1' or 'http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.
3. When prompted for Username and Password, please enter 'admin' for the Username and 'password' for Password.
4. Click on Wireless Settings (under Setup) from the left menu.
5. Check if WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) or WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key) is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the passphrase (or network key).
7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.

This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the router's wireless network.
In some cases, for security reasons the passphrase might show as asterisks. In this case type a new Password and click apply. You will then have to use the same Password for all the wireless devices connecting to the network.

Nintendo wii will not connect to my new d-link dsl2640r router

To connect the Nintendo Wii to your wireless router, the following settings must be set to the router.

*Wireless Network Name (SSID) - must be one word
*Wireless Encryption/Security - must be WEP
*Network Mode - must be Mixed

Open your router's admin page using Internet Explorer and type http://192.168.0.1 and type your router's password. By default username is admin and password leave it blank.

When you get to the router's setup page, look for wireless tab then change the Wireless Security Mode to WEP 64-bits/10 Hex digits. Type in any 10-digit hexadecimal key on Key 1, then save your settings. You should remember the 10-digit key because you'll going to use it on your Wii settings.

On your Wii settings, try to reconnect to wireless network then type in your 10-digit key. That should do it.
