Maybe the same problem (Aspire 3100):
Cannot "press" F2 to enter Bios on POST, cannot use keyboard to control boot menu (even from boot CD, for example Hiren's boot cd), but after system boot up (Slax) keyboard and touchpad seems to work.
Using external USB keyboard do not help, still no control posibility on POST.
checked conection of cable from keyboard to motherboard, reseted CMOS, nothing changed.
    (sorry my english)

HI. I RECENTLY got a hp proLIANT ML 330 G3 server. It did not come with any OS.. IT had only cd drive.. so i burned SERVER 2003 IN usb and i want to server to boot from usb.. when even i switched it on it...

I am sorry to advise you I have had the exact same issue with a ML330 G3, and it doesnt support USB boot , There are 2 work arounds, 1 is to burn 2003 to a CD as opposed to a DVD and then boot from the standard drive, the other option is to swap out the internal IDE CD Drive to a IDE DVD drive, these are pretty cheap to purchase and easy to fit, the key to fitting is that the ribbon that fits in the back of the drive has a stripe down one side, The side with the Stripe always plugs in nearest to the Power plug that you also plug into the drive.

If this helps, please can you provide positive feedback

Packard bell desktop wont boot up properly. packard bell screen shown but cant use the commands like f8 and f2 wont work

Hello JD , It may be an issue with your keyboard not registering before you get into windows. I have a couple recommendations for fixing this problem which are two of the more common issues. The first idea is if you are using both a USB Mouse/Keyboard, consider trying to find a PS2 (The classic/old purple or green circular connections) and hooking that up instead. You could buy a new one, but this isn't a 100% guaranteed fix so if at all possible I'd try and borrow one from a friend who may have old computer parts lying around. They however aren't very expensive and you would only need the Keyboard to complete a reformat. The second idea works for most people but some people may not feel comfortable doing it. It involves opening up the computer. 1) Turn off computer 2) Unplug it 3) Open it up 4)Make sure you ground yourself before touching anything inside it 5) Locate a watch battery thing on the motherboard 6) Pop it out, may need a flat head screwdriver for this, but don't be too forceful 7) If there's a power button on the motherboard, hold it for a few seconds 8) Recommend waiting approximately 5 minutes 9)Put the battery back in where you got it 10) plug the computer back in 11) Power it back up. This is a common fix for a fair amount of people who run into this same issue. I hope that this has helped you and have a great day JD!

None of the keys work on hp logo screen F10, f11. f9. esc system won't boot from hard drive or cd

are you using a usb keyboard? A lot of systems require a ps/2 (purple round connector) keyboard to access the bios settings and anything on the startup screen unless you have set usb on boot in the bios settings. I would try connecting a ps/2 keyboard and see if it helps.

Windows XP Setup hangs at 34 minutes remaining

This issue is one of the very common issues. If you are installing the Windows on a formatted Drive, remove any additional external devices like memory card, usb mouse/keyboard. Now go into the Bios and reset it to Optimized Default setting (restore the bios settings to default), again before you exit the bios settings, go into boot priority settings and disable "fast boot", set the first boot priority device to "Cd-rom" and second to "hard-drive 0", save the settings and restart your system and boot from the cd by pressing "enter" or "spacebar" when asked to press any key. And check whether this helps or not.
If you are installing additional windows on the system, you can try this hotfix from microsoft (click here to download) [or copy and paste this link into your browser:] before installing the new windows
This problem is mainly caused by hardware conflict or unsupported hardwares.

I wish you good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

On startup my keyboard doesn't work

Hello iko_gan,

This is actually a problem with USB Keyboards, Make sure that your BIOS is set to boot with USB making USB part of the boot sequence as opposed to an OS driver driven function, and if possible use the USB 1 port and not the USB 2 port. USB 2 is more suited for Hard drives. and why use all of your USB bandwidth for your key board.

This helped me solve my problem in this area.

MotherBoard Problem (BIOS)

im not positive this will work for you but in my bios there is a setting for USB keyboard and USB mouse and at one point I had to enable both of those to use my keyboard and mouse during the windows formatting process. Try to find settings like that for USB keyboard and enable them in your bios. If that doesn't work then you will have to use a different keyboard or get a usb to ps/2 converter. you might want to try unplugging your keyboard and then booting and see if it still goes straight into bios. If it doesn't then your keyboard is sending signals without you pressing the keys and that is obviously the issue.

Bios not loading when hitting DEL

Have you tried using a PS/2 keyboard? Or the other way around, a USB keyboard.

Additionally you can try doing a reset on the motherboard by temporarily relocating the jumper on the CMOS reset pins (JP1 close to the Lithium battery) from 2-3 to 1-2 for a couple of seconds then back. Normally, once performed, the motherboard on the next boot will revert to default and auto request a CMOS setup. Alternately you can also temporarily remove the battery for about 15 minutes.

If the USB and/or PS/2 KB nor the CMOS reset does not allow you to enter the BIOS setup, perhaps you need to return the board for replacement since this is indicative of MB failure.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need further information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Keyboard problems.

1. Restart the PC. 2. Hit F12 key repeatedly as soon as the PC turns ON. This will bring up the Boot Menu. 3. Select DELL Diagnostics. 4. Select the Complete / Full from the list of options. 5. Let the tests run which may take about an hour. Make sure you are there in front of the PC for the first 10-15 minutes, because it would need your inputs. 6. This will test the keyboard and USB ports too. 7. This will also verify for you whether the keyboard works when Windows hasn't started. 8. If all the tests pass and your keyboard is still working after sometime, you have issues with Windows: Start you computer in Safe Mode and check the USB drivers and the keyboard drivers. 9. Now, if you continue having issues even when you are running the diagnostics, you need to check your hardware viz. keyboard (try installing another keyboard if you have one) and the USB port. PLEASE REVERT BACK WITH THE RESULTS. I WOULD LOVE TO HELP YOU FURTHER ON THIS, IF THE ISSUE CONTINUES.
