Sony's have dual tuning systems to allow for the separate PIP channel. The common problem on the Sony's is the circuit board and tuning module connections go bad. It is likely that the connections on the board or module were already in the decayed process and moving it just accelerated the issues that were inevitable.
The quick fix is to swap the PIP over to the main picture or to bus the antennae signal to the antennae B terminal thus bypassing the bad tuner module.
The recommended fix action is to have someone with soldering skills to remove the chassis, and locate all the cold and cracked solder joints, especially near the tuning modules. If this does not take care of the problem, the tuning modules will need to be removed for re-soldering on the actual tuner modules.
If none of the above works, then you can always use the audio/video outputs of a cable box or vcr to the a/v jacks of the tv, thus bypassing both tuners in the tv.
What I hear you saying is that your main television tuner shows lines only while the PIP is functioning properly. The PIP works by using a separate tuner from the main tuner of your television (like a vcr tuner). Since the PIP works then it appears that your main tv tuner is not working anymore. It will probably have to be replaced. I recommend looking at our online technician list for a professional near you.
1. NO VIDEO, BUT HAS VIDEO WITH PIP ON. CHECK C763 (1UF 50V) ON THE BASE OF Q715, LOCATED ON THE UCOM-PCB. 2. NO MAIN VIDEO, THERE IS VIDEO IN PIP ON EXT1 AND EXT2:-CHECK FOR 1VPP OF LUMINANCE ON PIN 1 OF IC7000, IF MISSING OR LOW CHECK THE VALUE OF C7001 (4.7UF 35V), LOCATED ON THE PIP-PCB. THIS CAP MAY LEAK ELECTROLYTE ONTO THE BOARD AND OPENED A FEED THROUGH IN THE PATH BETWEEN C7001 POSITIVE LEAD AND THE EMITTER OF Q7003 OR CAUSE INTERMITTENT COLOR. PART # 181P504090. (CHECK ALL 'SMD' ELECTROLYTICS AND TRACES ON PIP) 3. NO MAIN OR PIP VIDEO, CHECK C7014, 47 UFD 16V ON THE PIP PCB. PART # 181P502060 4. CHECK FOR 7.2V DC ON THE BASE OF Q7003, IF LOW OR MISSING. I was told that in order to view 2 different channels at the same time u have to subscribe to SKYCable and use the digital input instead of the antenna input and the antenna input you will have to use the regular antenna since there is only one tuner in the TV
If the source to the PIP input is a color signal then the PIP display will be color. PIP sets have two video sources one goes to the main screen while the other goes to the PIP. it all depends on what the format of the signal is being sent to each input. This is quite normal.
rule number one about all vs chassis with vertical can pip boards
take them out and throw them away
i could fix one but you couldnt beleive me
and it wouldnt be worth your while
do a search on your modle number until you come up with instructions on how to add two caps to the pip board connector to bypass it
until you do this you are wasting your time
