Question about Apple iPhone Smartphone
Mine did that and under the "sounds" setting when I tried turning it up it would just go back to no volue. I had mine ina Bullfrog case and the plstic case was not completley sealed, once i seled the outer case it worked.

Try updating your iOS to the latest version, if the issue still occurs then you have a faulty volume control switch. If you are comfortable taking apart the phone you can get replacement parts at ifixit.com
otherwise try contacting your wireless provider or apple to see if the device is still under warranty.
