Nikon coolpix 4000 not charging its shows battery exhousted

In the upper right corner of the LCD there is a small battery level indicator. When the battery is fully charged, it is all black. As the charge goes down, one side will be white and the other side black to indicate the remaining charge. If you look at item 6 on page 6 of the manual, it shows you. It could possibly be the battery or the charger itself.Try purchasing the charger it self.Use the old battery to see if it will charge it. If it does not charge you may have to purchase a new battery.as well.
