The equation is easy: it's right there in what you said.

3x = x+50

which solves to give

x=25

Since this seems like a homework problem, you'll have to show your work.

I don<t think you can. Even if you could, you would not be able to find a solution. You need three equations in three unknowns. You only have two.

You should check your manual. The FX300MS has only three calculation modes: COMP (regular calculator), SD (standard deviation) and REG (statistical regression analysis). You cannot solve equations.

First of all you equation is not one : it has nothing on the right side of the = sign. But to answer the general question let us write the equation as **50+25x-5y=0**

**X-intercept (also know as roots) There may be several**

Definition: X-intercepts are those values of the independent variable x**for which y=0**. For a straight line there con be at most 1 x-intercept.

To find the intercept, set y=0 in the equation of the line and solve for x

50+25x-5(0)=0 or 50+25x=0. The solution is** x=-(50/25)=-2**

**Y-intercept (also know as the initial value.** There can only be 1 y-intercept, otherwise the expression does not represent a function.

Definition: It is the value of the dependent variable y when x=0 (where the function crosses the y-axis

To find it, set the x-value to 0 in the equation of the line.

**50+25x-5y=0**

50+25(0)-5y=0, or 50-5y=0. The solution is**y=50/5=10**

The straight line cuts the x-axis at the point (-2, 0) and the y-axis at the point (0,10)

- You have several memory locations you can use to store values in them. The memory locations are A,B,C,D, M, X, and Y. You use [SHIFT][RCL] and one of the variable names above. Example store 78 in C location: 78 [SHIFT] [RCL] [HYP]. To recall that value press [RCL] [HYP]

- If you want to use the EQN (equation solving mode, press [MODE][5:EQN] then select the equation type . For example [3:aX^2+bX+c=0] will display a template wher you input the three coefficients.

- You can also enter any type of equation and solve it with the SOLVE command. In that case you use the keyboard to enter the expression (see above how to enter variable name X). To type in the equal sign (=) use [ALPHA][ CALC]. Once the whole equation is typed in, press [SHIFT[ [SOLVE], and the calculator will prompt SOLVE for X? Confirm and press the main = sign. Press = again to get a second, a third root (if any)

Start by combining like terms on each side of the equation.

Remember, when working with variables the real numbers always come last in the equation(i.e. 5+x-7=x+5-7)

Once you have this completed move all variables to one side and all whole numbers to the other side. Solve from there.

This calculator cannot handle matrices that have anyone dimension larger than 3.

How to solve your problem?

use a computer program devoted to solving linear equations

OR buy another calculator that can handle larger systems of equations (a graphing calculator, maybe).

How to solve your problem?

- Set up the problem by hand (pencil paper): use Cramer's rules. Make use of the calculator to perform the various calculation.

- Sacrifice one equation which you will use to eliminate one variable of the 4 by expressing it in terms of the other three. Do the algebra to obtain a system of 3 equations in three unknowns.
- Use the calculator to find the solutions ( the three variables that are left).
- Use the 4th equation (the one you scacrificed) to obtain the value of the 4th unknown.

It is always risky to try to answer a question about a calculator of an undisclosed model.

To be able to symbolic algebra (with variables), one needs a calculator with CAS (or Computer Algebra System). These types of calculators are special graphing calculators. ( Not all graphing calculators have a CAS.)

To get back to your question: No, you cannot do algebra with a mere scientific calculator even a recent one. All you can do is define an equation with variables A,B,C,D, Y and X and press the Solve button if it exists. The calculator will ask: Solve for X?. If you say yes, you will be prompted for the values of all letters (A,B,C,D, Y) in your equation and the calculator will search for the value of X, that makes the left side of your equation equal to the right side.

It will display the X-value and the difference L-R.
