When I place the walkie talkie in the charger base, the light indicator does not come on. I've put new batteries in the walkie talkies. Also, on another walkie talkie, it constantly shuts off when I push the talk button. PLEASE HELP! Thanks! Patricia

Generally when a radio shuts off when you press the PTT button it is a sign of a bad or poorly charged battery. It takes more energy to transmit than to receive. The fact you have a charge which the light does not come on indicates you have a bad charger or bad connection between the radio and/or battery and the charger. Clean your battery contacts (on both radio and charger) with a pencil eraser and see if it clears up the problem. If not, you have either a battery or charger problem.

Best regards.

Charging/Charged Indicators

I don't know what model of radio, but here is what I would try: pull the batteries and charge them on the charger by themselves if your charger allows this. The lights, well, some manufacturers just miss the boat. Especially on low end or "beginner" radios. I have one brand I can insert with NO BATTERY and the light comes on. Talk about useless. Charge times vary by size of battery and charger output, minimum is 3 hours, 12 hours much more likely but I see a lot at 5-7 hours. Hope this helps, model and brand helps always.

You might try http://wirelesspro.com, we have found them to carry most TalkAbout accessories and batteries. Before ordering battery packs, you might try switching your existing good battery to the other radio and see if it solves the problem. This would assure you that it is indeed a battery problem.

Hello Ty,

Tis a problem you have there, however I would advise you take one of your radios to radioshack or similar store, and the folk there should be able to assist in finding the apropriate chargers for you.

I hope this helps you in your quest.

Cobra pr 3850wx bought new NiMh 800mAh 1.2v rechargable batteries now the base charger lights won't come on when i put the radios in it

  • A Cobra 3850wx Radio requires 4x600mAh NiMH 1.2V AAA Part # GA-3ANH rechargeable batteries.
  • Not just any AAA rechargeable battery will charge in the unit.
  • All will work in the radio but not all will charge inside the radio. It has to be a specific battery.
  • This is an example of what you need. GA-3ANH batteries which will charge inside your radio. http://www.tomsawyer2wayradios.com/catalog/item/3823249/5076887.htm

Walkie talkies were working yesterday (gift from Christmas) and today the red power light is on indicating both working, but we can only get sound out of one of them.....any suggestions? brand new...

Hello,
These walkie talkies are pretty simple to use. Turn on and turn the volume up and talk. So if you turn it on it is possible for there to be enough juice in the batteries to make the LED function but not enough to modulate (or talk) to the other walkie talkie. Have you tried to replacing the batteries with new ones yet? Sometimes recharge ables go bad and they are no good when you install them into your item. So make sure the batteries you installed are "new." And replace in both units. Should this not work, given the nature of the item and the age of those who will more than likely be using them, they break and soldier joints come loose. The back has a screw that is a specialty tool to remove. Outside of removing that and taking a look there is not much that can be done. Make sure to put at least 5 feet between the two radios to allow for good reception.

The battery is fully charged on the walkie talkies and all are on the same channel, however out of 12 walkie talkies only 2 will work. When ever you push the push to talk button the walkie talkie shuts...

Your batteries are either no good, or not charged. When you press the PTT button it takes more energy than being in standby mode. If you have a battery problem it will fail quickly when the PTT is pressed.

Rechargeable batteries last approx. 18-24 months. Check your battery for a 3-digit date code. It is usually a 3 digit number followed by a couple of letters. The numbers tell the date of manufacture. The first number is the year, followed by the week of the year. 025 would be 2010 the 25th week. (or if very old it could be 2000 the 25th week.)

If you feel age is not a problem, you might check your charger(s) to see they are fully powered, and clear of debris on the contacts (and the radio contacts as well). Clean with a pencil eraser if needed.

A few tips: Be certain when placing your radios on the charge they are turned off. Check your wall outlet to be certain it doesn't get shut off with a light switch. Expect to replace your batteries every 2-3 years.

Best regards.

I have a gmr885 walkie talkie set...we used them last weekend as we moved from ct to maine..they were charged well before we left ct and when we got to maine put them in the charger, no lights showed lite...

You might try cleaning the battery contacts and the charger contacts with a pencil eraser. It could be you are not getting good connection. Also check your batteries to see they are installed correctly and are touching the internal battery contacts to the radio. Try switching the battery pack to the opposite radio, as a test to see if one will turn on. It would be highly unusual for both radios and/or chargers to fail at the same time. So the problem is probably something simple.
