eject the game from the cd console if in the drive make sure your xbox is on warm it up take the disc if it is dirty run under warm water all over the silver side of the disc till dirt and debris gets completely removed after still holding the disc turn off the water and use scott SCOTT brand toilet paper the straight kind and use about four sheets to dry the disc or use a blow dryer, not preffered prefreably scot toilet paper after the disc is dry and warm very dry take your clean index finger and remove the rest of the debris off the disc and when the xbox says open tray let it say close tray close it see if it says read the disc if it says read the disc then it is not your laser or the laser needs to be blowed off with an air gun or compressed air. Get it to say close tray and itll close it self, wait ten seconds turn off the xbox turn it back on and go to my xbox mash play wait for it to read the disc. THE DISC WILL NOT WORK IF IT IS DIRTY I reccomend running it under warm water (let dry on both sides while still holding it properly) use a non scratch cloth to clean the disc preferablly scott toilet paper the smooth kind, after it is dry put the disc in the console if youve tried the disc try a brand new disc it might definately work after it says read if it says play the game then its the disc. If nothing happens like it dont say reading disc then your laser is cracked corrupted, or it has debris on it or is wett. Dont let your laser head get wet because i told you to run it under water make sure the disc is dry and completly free of scratches and smudges. WASH THE DISC WITHOUT SCRATCHING IT. Dont put a wet disc in your x box. Mash the hard drive button down and release mash reset to recycle the xbox green lights. Remove all the cords fromt the xbox wait two weeks or shorter, I waited a month or more before i played my game and it worked after I cleaned it twice one time and a month later i cleaned it without soap and used luke warm water.Remember Open tray, press buttom close tray closing automatically should say read reading reading disc then play if does not read the disc then its your laser. If its your laser and you are sure its your laser do not remove the hardrive or any screws they can tell youve botherd it because that will void your warranty. go to www.xbox.com/support its a pdf file print shipping label follow the steps to repair.
Hello, that unit uses one laser and the tray brings each cd to that laser for it to be read. The fact that a particular disc is having problems leads me to believe the disc is at fault, look for scratches and/or fingerprints on its clear metallic side.
IT IS THE EYE. the eye th the little shiny piece that you can bairly see once the tray comes out.you might have put a disk in at a wrong position and scratched the eye. replacing it might be what to do, but i would check first.
dirty laser, give it a clean with an Isopropynol alcohol (cassette head cleaner) moistened cotton bud, with very gentle, light pressure circular motion. If that fails then I would suggest getting a replacement laser pickup for it. CD cleaner discs may work, they don't do a very good job and can end up scratching the laser. Make sure the unit is unplugged BEFORE removing the case lid to gain access and also be very very careful not to knock the timing out on the tray. you may find it easier to eject the disc tray first, unplug and then remove the lid if it allows with draw open otherwise whilst unplugged push the tray in slowly so that it is not fully engaged, that way you will be able to slide it out again without screwing the timing up when the lid is off.
Since you "smashed" which made things much worse (been there, done that). It was probrably fixable but now that it scratches I can only assume that the lens (laser) is scratched and damaged "beyond repair". The only suggestion I have, if you really want to fix it is to replace the lens and probrably the disc tray too. Fot the trouble it's worth too fix and the fact that there is no guarantee that it will even work after you fix it, your best bet is too buy a new one or at least a refurbished one.
Check your disk for scratches fingerprints ect,, if thats all good step two try useing a lens cleaner
****(( tip and trick for scratched disks ))**** a crayon rubbed on the disk then wiped off with a lint free cloth no t-shirts dish towels that will just add more scratches remember start at the center wipeing out to the edge.
I hope your in the right posting area, this is for the Phat PS2 consoles with the drawer that comes out to put the CD in. Procedure is different for Slim PS2.
Disconnect power and turn the case upside down.
Remove the screw covers to expose the case screws. These are little square pieces or square rubber pads. You can use a thin knife blade to pry the hard plastic squares up.
Remove all the screws.
REmove the Warranty sticker to the right edge of the power socket.
Turn the PS2 over to set it right side up.
lift the top cover from the back and pull it forward slightly to clear the CD tray. Be careful of a possibly Ribbon cable attached to the lid going to the REset/Eject buttons. Roll the cover over to the right leaving the ribbon intact.
Remove the Cd tray lid.
Polish the Laser lens, and remove any lint or hair from the Cd area. Use Alcohol and cotton swabs to clean the laser lens. By the way, Alcohol will damage a PS2 Slim lens. All lens are not created equally.
Hook up the power and A/v Cables.
REmove the little white disc from the Cd tray lid.
Place a Disc on the spindle, and cap the disc with the little white piece that you removed from the CD tray cover.
Boot up the PS2 and test it, Continue cleaning until you get it to work.
Put it back together, and your in business.
If you have trouble you can send your PS2 to the Playstation Clinic for Repair. Contact [email protected]
