Hi. i have a HP 4510S probook There is an intermittent problem with the mouse where during start uo it says 'mouse not detected' When it does work it's usually for a short while & then stops. I then have to reboot the laptop to regain functionality of the mouse but this is a hit and miss solution. Any ideas what could be wrong?
Yes I have a synaptics touchpad. I haven't reinstalled drivers but it is the latest version available. If I uninstall it I cannot reinstall because I won't have any mouse at all. If this is a recent occurance, shut down, unplug, remove battery, plug in, push the on/off button and do a System Restore to a date before this problem. Perhaps the TouchPad driver is in error. You can try a external USB mouse to troubleshoot the problem in Device Manager to verify the driver or device isn't in error. I think HP TouchPad software is Synaptics Pointing Device, check your your Tray Notification Area for the icon, right click, select Pointing Device Properties. Or Control Panel, select Mouse.
That is the link to the service manual for the Probook 4510s. I believe what you're looking for starts on page 64. HP and Dell are both pretty good about putting the service manuals online for anyone to use for reference. For more manuals about the Probook 4510s check out
