Re Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T7/S Sliding lense cover wont travel down far enough to clear the lense. Message on screen says --lense cover closed Sydney Sony repair centre says discard for new. Seems a waste for a simple repair. Suggestions please

Lens block is faulty

It appears that you have already tried what I'd have suggested as a last resort. Apart from cleaning the contacts and removing the battery for 15 minutes there is not much that can be done.

In my opinion it is better to purchase new camera than to spend so much on this one. Note that sony may also charge you a checking fee if you decide to send the camera in hope for less costly repair than they estimated.

And yes, it would be fruitless to dismantle the camera if you are not qualified for this stuff. There are no user serviceable parts inside and also there are timed mechanical switches which can be difficult to reassemble without a proper schematic.

PS. Please do not use Vodka for cleaning electronic components as it contains small amount of moisture. Use Isopropyl alcohol.

Go to camera menu and select Initialize, that will reset camera to factory default settings and then check delete button function.
If still no joy, let me know exact model number of camera that would be written at bottom.

turned camera on and off as instructed and i keep getting that same message. lense cover does not open.

turn on when lense extends take hold of the end of the lense and gently twist and pull the lense you may hear it click do not force the lense then turn on and off again this should solve the problem.

Your lens is jammed. Odds are it's unrepairable, but as a last ditch effort try GENTLY wiggling/twisting the lens as you attempt to power down or on.

This is a internal circuit problem/defect and cannot be done on our own, so u should take it to SONY service centre. Avoid keeping the camera near hot temperatures zone. Sony is not tolerant to many physical factors.

Lens Block assy. is defecive and try first to clear the foreign particles like sand etc if any. The block has to be replaced. May be we can supply this in 3 weeks time. Pl.let me know.
