You have to make sure that the region is set go to My Computer then select DVD right click on it then go to properties then go to the region settings and select the United States region click on OK, also I populate it as well then try playing a DVD. Thanks for using fixya, John
I've tried all of these already... The dvd won't even show up in the explorer. When I try to open the drive I get a message saying that I need to insert a disc. I had an extra dvd drive sitting around so I threw that in and it played the dvd without a problem. I just wanted this one to work because of it's lightscribe abilities...
The DVD player may be no good anymore you did the right thing by changing it out and getting another one. I have changed out a few and those are the tell tail signs especially when you cannot open the tray using the power button on it. So since you have done all of this suggested again you did the right thing. John

Do you have any software that play multimedia? or Power DVD any version or is your player also cant read any dvd disk at all? why not try to clean the lens, but be careful the lens is sensitive.
