My LG TV worked fine till this evening. Suddenly the picture went off and sound remained. After that everytime we put on the TV the picture appears clearly for about less than a second and the picture then screen goes black (like when its off) but the sound remains as is.
What could be the problem? Please let me know whether I need to call a service guy or is it just some setting? Or is it something gone wrong with the Panel?

Common LG LCD TV REPAIR - NO PICTURE OR BLACK SCREEN FIX ... came on good with green light working properlybut still no picture.
That sound a lot like a backlight issue that in a lot of cases is due to poor capacitors on the power supply. The power supply also usually contains the high voltage generators that supply the backlight to the display. Search for that symptom on the internet with your model and brand in the search bar and you will find that a lot of people have the same problem. Those people that are technical often fix it by removing the supply and replacing the capacitors with those from DigiKey or Mouser Electronics. These new parts are not the very low grade Chinese parts that were made to a build the part. I have repaired many computer displays in the very same way- in fact the hardest part of the job is figuring out how to open it up. The capacitors I speak of are the larger Electrolytic types that are showing a puffed condition or are venting. Hi, I disagree with info provided, if screen of your LG lcd tv becomes green that means inverter board is working and lcd tv does not have convergence ICs. Please unplug tv from ac wall socket for minute to get it reset, replug back in and turn it On and check its picture. If still showing green screen then change input source with remote, if tv shows same green screen on all inputs that means its either lcd panel problem or digital signal processor got bad loacted on main board. Local tv repairman is needed to confirm and fix it. Thanks.
Check the menus for both the DVD and TV to be sure that the audio is being sent thru the HDMI cable. Some sets and DVDs will separate the audio from the video be default unless told to send it down the HDMI. Update this if that does not resolve the problem and post the make and model of all gear in the chain.
Most likely what happened is one of the capacitors went bad. When a capacitors goes bad it produces a popping sound. This could be an easy and cheap fix if you find the bad capacitor or capacitors. The bad capacitor will have a bulging top most likely on the power board but could be anywhere.
