When washing the arms arn't spraying water leaving the dishes dirty.
I'm having the same (or similar) problem with my Kenmore Elite 665.15953000. The bottom arm spins and cleans dishes on the lower rack, but the middle spray arm doesn't spin and just sort of dribbles water out. As a result the top shelf items don't get cleaned at all.
I've followed your advice and I'm getting water to the proper level (in fact, the very bottom of the heating element actually sits in the water). I had a repairman here yesterday who took apart the lower arm and checked the food chopper and filter. He said everything looked clean as a whistle. He then said that this model has a secondary pump to get water to the top levels and that must have gone bad. He's advice -- to replace the dishwasher. The main pump works fine and drains the wash water every time.
After doing a little research, I'm not sure there is a secondary pump or that he knew what he was talking about. Do you have any additional advice or should I just chuck my dishwasher which had previously given me no problems whatsoever.

Re: Dishwasher spray arms don't spin & spray water
It could be due to Not filling enough water or food chopper broke or food chopper filter screen clogged.
Check water level: Run the DW and wait for the main wash to start (water will fill. pause then complete fill) The water should be no more than 1/4 inch below the heating element. If not there..replace water inlet valve. check the food chopper: Remove lower spray arm and rear water supply tube to upper spray arm. . Remove torx screws that secure the sump cover. Remove primary filter. Remove food chopper cover to expose the chopper assembly. Inspect for breakage or blockage.

Check the following: - The Salt Container - Found at the bottom of the Dishwasher. (If required, replenish salt) - The spray arms (They usually get clogged at the small holes where the water should spray out of) - Us less heat (High heat can leave white visible stains on glass)
I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying... Dishwasher Spray Arms not Spinning
If someone is putting dishes in the washer and obstructing the spray ams that would cause food to stay on dishes. After loading dishwasher and pushing in baskets make sure the spray arm doesnt hit any of the dishes causing them to not clean properly. If that doesnt work or is definately not your problem try removing the spray arm and seeing if it has food inside of it. Some times they get food build up in them and need to be flushed out.
Do the spray bars rotate easily? If not, you need to remove the spray bars and clean the insides out (do this even if the spray bars do turn easily.). Also check that where they mount is clean and free of debris.
Check the nozzles and make sure they are not plugged.
Also check that the inlet screen to the pump is not clogged (around the bottom of the unit).
Let me know what you find, and tell me if you can hear water spraying inside the unit during a wash cycle (and do the dishes get wet.).
Hi: I just posted a similar problem, but found a solution. After taking the arm, etc. apart (and verifying no blockages), I thought maybe the lack of water pressure was being caused by the fact that there are TWO holes for the top spray arm (higher and lower rack setting) on my model. ie. that water was being forced out of both holes, causing a drop in water pressure, which was causing the top spray arm to stop spinning. I plugged the unused hole with a wine bottle cork (to keep the water from spraying out the unused hole), and voila, it now works.
Could be a a couple different issues.. Not filling with enough water or food chopper broke or food chopper filter screen clogged.
Check water level: Run the DW and wait for the main wash to start (water will fill. pause then complete fill) The water should be no more than 1/4 inch below the heating element. If not there..replace water inlet valve.
Inspect food chopper: 1. Remove lower spray arm and rear water supply tube to upper spray arm. 2. Remove torx screws that secure the sump cover. 3. Remove primary filter 4. Remove food chopper cover to expose the chopper assembly. Inspect for breakage or blockage.

brittgee, there has been a number of service flashes on this model. One that has to do with the upper spray arm assy. Complaint is poor washability; gritty glasses, food redeposited on glasses, especially in the corners. They redesigned the upper spray arm to improve water spray to all corners of the upper rack. The new part number is 8269022. They also redesigned the third level spinner for more consistant rotation and better washability. This was also under a service flash. Part number.8193768. Other reasons for poor wash would be; low water temperature, rinse aid disp. not working, loading etc. Catriver...post back.
