Question about Acer Aspire 5720-6661 Notebook PC

Acer Aspire 5720 with Vista Home Premium-start up problems

My computer will no longer start up and it gives me a message saying that Windows can not repair it - contact administrator or computer manufacturer. I tried restarting, rebooting and restoring to an earlier date and nothing worked. I contacted the computer manufacturer and they said I need to buy a 'restore cd' from them. Is this the only solution and can you purchase this cd from any computer store or does it have to be from the manufacturer? Thanks for your time.

Thanks - I have already checked out that site. I was just wondering if you can get this CD at any computer store instead of ordering on line from the states. (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada)

Thank you very much for the information. I will order the CD from Acer as the other options you provided look too complicated for a.....what's the opposite of a genius?

Have a read here.
Reading the article it looks like a standard recovery method for all Acer machines, desktop or laptop.

The problem you are up against is, your laptop came bundled with a load of other software like DVD burning software, various trial offers and trouble shooting software written specifically for your machine by Acer.

You would not be able to buy this in a local store, what you could do is buy an OEM copy of Vista and use your CD key from the COA sticker on the bottom of your laptop and another copy of Nero or whatever your DVD burning software is, this would probably work out more expensive than buying the recovery DVD from Acer.

If you know someone with the exact same copy of Vista that you have but on a DVD you might be able to do a repair install, I have not seen anything about a Vista repair install yet but this is a link to the instructions for XP:

Whatever you do, don't forget your personal files are not lost, they can be recovered by slaving your harddrive to another machine and accessing them.

If you have personal files on your machine and want to recover them dont hesitate to ask if you need help with that as well.

Two easy ways to reset windows administrator password

Here gives the two easy and common ways for us to reset Windows administrator password.Just follow and try.

If you forgot Windows administrator password and didn't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows and will need to re-install Windows.

If you've forgotten your Windows password and you're on a domain, you should contact your system administrator to reset your password. If you're not on a domain, you can reset your password by using a password reset disk or by using an administrator account.

Now you also can reset your Windows password as follow ways:

First way.To use an administrator account to reset your password

Care this

If you use an administrator account to reset the password, you will permanently lose access to any e-mail messages or encrypted files that are on that account.

1.Log on to the administrator account that you will use to reset the forgotten password.

2.Open Local Users and Groups by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, typing lusrmgr.msc into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.‌ Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3.Double-click Local Users and Groups, and then click Users.
4.Right-click the account that you need to reset the password for, and then click Set Password.

5.Type and confirm the new password.

Second way.To use your password reset disk to reset Windows administrator password

You will not be able to follow these steps if you have locked your computer.

1.If you have typed the wrong password, you'll receive a message that says your user name or password is incorrect. When this message appears, click OK.

2.Click Reset password, and then follow the instructions.

So,if you ever or now have noticed the security for your computer,do make a password reset disk to prevent.

My computer will not boot up. it says AHCI bios not installed. it is a dell 530 s inspiron can anyone help please. it also doesn't show to have cd rom but added A drive which it does not have it wont boot...

This can happen on some models. Turn the computer off and unplug the tower. Press the power button to discharge any stored power. Plug it back in and press the power button. You will probably get this message again but let the computer sit. Windows may be working in the background trying to start back up. Let it go for like a half hour to an hour. If it does not start you may have to do a system restore or a repair install to make windows start correctly again. If waiting longer does not work for you then let us know and I can give you instructions on how to continue the repair process.
Hope this helps... Dale

Windows xp password

Passwords. Those ubiquitious alpha-numeric codes that protect us and give us access to everything digital. Unfortunately, passwords can be confusing because, though your computer likely won't forget a password, you very well might. When this happens, you can be locked out from your whole system, as in the case of the Windows XP Administrator Password. This article will show you how to remove an Administrator password.

  1. Insert your Windows XP CD into your CD drive and boot your computer. If you receive the message "press any key to boot from CD," press any key.
  2. Step 2 Press Enter to setup Windows. After accepting the license agreement, you wil be asked if you want start a Repair process.
  3. Step 3 Press R to begin the Repair process. Setup will now check your disks and then start copying files, which can take several minutes. After this, reboot. Let the computer boot normally (do not press a key to boot from CD).
  4. Step 4 Keep your eye on the lower left hand side of the screen. When you see the Installing Devices progress bar, press SHIFT + F10. This will open a command line console.
  5. Step 5 Type NUSRMGR.CPL at the prompt and press Enter. This will give you access to User Accounts. Remove or change your password. Write it down! After the repair is finished, you will be able to log on with your new password.
Good luck!

If i am helpful please rate me.
Thank you.

Black screen, computer will not boot up and start

try to boot the computer using the recovery disc in it, sounds like some operating system files are gone or corrupted, booting from the disc should reinstall the os, or the missing files, but it will check for hardware problems anyways......hope this

Startup Repair

ok then you can try removing the harddrive and reseating it. that might clear up the problem but the odds are your going to have to use your recovery disks to restore your machine. but before you do that. if you have information that you need off the computer. you need to get someone to retrieve the info off of it.
