There's an annoying creaking sound coming from around my right rear wheel on my 2005 Accord. I think I've identified it as the trailer arm. Is that something I can replace myself?

They are usually fairly easy to replace, remove the large bolt that holds the arm to the knuckle, then remove the 2 bolts that hold the arm to the sub frame. Just grunt work really, not too hard.

1- front wheel bearing hub loose or loose axle nut
2- front shock(s)
3- ball joint(S)

all of these things can be checked by a professional in about 15 minutes and should be relatively painless financially

I would get a second opinion to compare physical inspection results. The wheel bearing is most urgent, as are control arm bushings.

Sound can transmit from one end of the car to the other, but the noise was heard in the rear and the balljoints are in the front.

The sway bar and its' bushings can make a noise. You will get body lean on turns with worn components, and some rear drive models have links which can break and detach.

You need to identify the Car Brand and model so the Experts know what you may have for components.

As you may have noticed, I have not said much about shocks. If you have shocks and not struts, there are different priorities. If either is leaking, the priority increases. Some strut towers have a bearing ring and when worn out, can be a safety issue. Shocks fit inside control arms and do not have a bearing ring. Rear suspensions vary, some use control arms on multilink types, others use a rear axle with springs.

But get the wheel bearing fixed. Have tierod ends checked. The guy under the car will have a better idea of its physical condition than what we can tell online.

our first creaking ever.
love that.( its haunted? LOL)

nobody can fix a car, if you can't demo it
not heard, can't fix it if it is not broken, rings true here.
when you do that, they are forced to guess, at your expense.
its an Implied GUE$$

first off you need to find out when it happens. exactly
first. (bounce car hard parked)?
only turning, only at bumps, when?
only moving, I guess
it can creak and be AOK,
for example the front stabilizer bar is mounted in rubber mounts
and will creak. and be ok. (so spray them)

why not buy a can of SILICON spray ,and spray
all things under car that moves,
all things, not the drive shafts.
there are swing arms, Arms, and many things to make noises in the the whole suspension systems.
it could be tie rods failing (bad that)spray them.
if have weeks to find it spray 1 at a time>? tedious.
any suspension shop in town knows what to do.
find one.
a real shop can use his electronic 4 channel stethoscope
and drive it and find it. but must FAIL for HIM.

see?

If you are absolutely certain that the wheels are not needing balanced, then I would suspect the CV joints / Driveshafts. Sounds like one of them may be stuck.

I think you are right. The strut or strut mount bearings on the top of the strut could be making noise. The shop might try and rip you off with additional repairs for the control arms, control arm bushings, or steering parts. I would take the vehicle to a reliable shop.
