I power on the 42MP1 and the green light comes on, I hear a click which sounds normal to me then the light goes to red after about 2 seconds. I talked to a tech support agent at NEC and he said that he couldn't help me because I am not certified, but then suggested that it was a short in the panel. He said to disconnect the panel and see if the light stays green for 10 seconds. He seemed so vague and in a hurry I am concerned that his recommendation is not correct. Do you agree with the Technician?
I have repaired many monitors but before I take it apart I want to have as much good info as I can get. Thanks.
You need to check the supply outputs. unplug the panel from the supply and check with an anolog meter. if the supply runs for 10 secs it will lock out.
or u could start with the resistors and FETs in the supply.

i am having the same problem. My Phillips 37" 37PF9431D/37I LCD High Definition TV won;t turn on. When I press the power button i hear a click and the green light comes on for a couple of seconds and then the red light appears. I can;t figure it out. Did you find a solution?
Now,u plug in the tv u get a solid red standby power red LED light in the front of the LCD panel right? When u push the power button on the remote u hear a clicking sound?Only one clicking sound, not the power supply board problems. It the Tuner board problems. But u can make sure it the power board problems or not.By taking the tv aparts check the power board, that board where the a/c power cord goes into it.Look all around the power supply board check for these leakage capacitors, they alway bulges up it top or puff up it top.No bad leakage capacitors, then it not the power supply board problems.
Hi i have a pilips 42" plasma tv (42PF5320/79) i can hear clicking the green light is on and the tv will go into stand by if i press the power button and the red light also comes on .I have turned it on and off and it works now nothing just the light on the front as if its working looking at the back through the slots two green lights come on then the tv clicks and they turn off, thanks
Yeah, it's the power supply. I've ordered (2) of these power supplies used, and the same problem seems to be happening with both. The transformers on the power supply board (namely, the 170+ volt one) are the problem. You have several test points on the power supply board which you can touch with a voltmeter to see if your television is getting the correct voltage . Mine made a a high pitch squeal which indicated which transformer was bad. If you find a place to get the transformers new - id like to know, because mine is still non functional because of this and the fact that a new PS board is over $600.
