You can get rid of the red dots by adjusting the V-scan voltage down, it's on the panel sticker inside the unit, you can find the test point on the DC to DC pcb, and the adjustment pot is on the same board, lower it as you watch the screen and only lower it enough to rid the screen of the dots

THe SD card inside has a lever to its left Side .... Move it upwards ..... That is the lock on the Memory Card ...

Double check for the correct path to where you are saving the pictures. Maybe the software is trying to save to a CD-ROM or other drive.

I figured out your problem because i was experiencing the same thing. The memory card has a tiny white switch on the side of it that says "lock". I'm guessing you accidently moved it like i did. I hope i helped you :)
