This is great information except this regards the middle latch and the one that is not working on mine is the one in the corner. I can see it on this machine when they take the door off in the video. Its located on the machine but not the door in the top corner.

My bad. I should have remembered this as I grew up with the same dryer!

There was a rounded metal tab that was always getting bent until it broke off. One of my first repairs.

It's the door switch. The metal has since been changed to a plastic tab in many cases.

    DOOR SWITCH is athttp://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/D...

Whirlpool dryer LER8648PWO wont start.

make sure door is closed and then if that doesnt do it, open door and look for where the door contacts at closing you will see a little metal table that is like a ground sometimes when a dryer door is closed or slammed the tab might get pulled backwards with the opening of the door again adjust the tab again so contact with door when shut makes contact if that doesnt do it, check your breaker and see if the breaker was tripped too

Dryer won't stop when door opened

Possibly the switch on the door has bent far enough so that it will not disengage when the door opens. It may be stuck on the sharp edge of the metal. Look closely, dislodge if necessary. There are very sharp metal edges so be careful with your fingers. Recommend calling a "mechanically minded" friend or neighbor before calling a repairman.

My dryer does not turn on. I have power to the plug but the when I set the timer and then push the start button nothing happens (drum does not turn nor does it heat). The plug is fine and wires to the...

Hi Ken,
I recently wrote a short article about this for someone. I'll insert it here for you.
I would like to know what you found.
Best Regards,
Mark

Here it is.

When most Whirlpool dryers do not turn on at all. The most common cause of failure is the door switch and the door switch actuator.
Here is how you can test this.
1 Empty the dryer of clothes
2 Locate the door switch actuator. it will be over along the top edge of where the door closes, just inside the lip. There will be a little (3/8th inch wide) metal tab covered in plastic(or a plastic tab). This is the actuator that is mounted to the electrical door switch. The door switch is a valuable safety device that prevents children, pets and adults from loosing limbs and other things in a spinning dryer. DON'T BYPASS IT.
3 The tab may simply be broken off. If you can push the piece and hear a clicking sound, it means the switch is probably good but the tab is not.
4 To test this push the tab in or jam a ball point pen in there until it clicks, turn the dryer timer on and push the start button. It it comes on, that was the issue.
WARNING: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER PUT YOU ARM INTO A SPINNING OPEN DRYER DOOR.
JUST DON'T DO IT. IT CAN RUIN YOUR DAY.
5 If you push the tab and get no click but a sort of springy action. The switch is broken.
Usually the switch replacement kit has both the metal tab and the switch.
That is most often it.
If you can supply me with the model number of the dryer, I can help you locate the right part and give some instruction on how to do it.
Best,
Mark

Whirlpool LEQ9030PQ0 electric will not start

Make sure it has power. Then:Check the door switch. A little lever sticking down through top right of door opening. If it is not there you will need new door switch(sometimes the little lever breaks off). If it is there and does not click when you press it in you need a new door switch. if it clicks when you close the door then you have a bad thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is found by taking the back of the dryer off. The fuse is an oblong white plastic piece with 2 wires attached.
