I understand you're having the problem of the loud whirring/buzzing coming from your light engine and that you are going to replace it. Would you be willing to sell me you old, bad light engine? If so, how much with shipping to 75070.
The only reason you want to by the color wheel is cause you and I know that they are not broken, just a little touch up and they are fine. Why don't you helf this person instead of you making a profit.

possibly the main drive belt has either snapped or jumped off the pulley and this allows you to turn easily by hand the whir/buzz sounds like system in coming into play but with no belt to drive nothing more happens, the front lower portion of the machine could be the water pump working overtime unable to drain ???
That sound generally comes from a magnetic coil that is being energized. It could be from a compressor control or a furnace gas valve. In either case there is no danger involved it may buzz for years and unless you have money put aside for a heating mans adventure id just let it buzz until it gets so loud it just has to go. Sometimes the buzz just goes away. I know it sounds crazy and I understand one persons buzz is another persons nightmare. Its yer call. Hope this helped and good luck.
Since this unit doesn't use a compressor, the only moving parts are the whisper fans inside of it that circulate the air. One of those fans may be going bad. If you are handy you can remove the back to see if all the fans are working but your best bet is to use the one year warranty and have a qualified techncian figure it out.
Linda .....no its not the lamp thats causing the whirring/buzzing sound but the colour wheel, its housed in the light engine you will need to replace the whole light engine cos the inbuilt colour wheel is worn out this causes the buzz hence the lamp may not light up or u may have shut downs flickers on the pix or color issues
My truck Hino dutro year 2005 is on check engine light, coputer say this fault, p2002 particulate trap efficiency below threshold (bank 1) now i dont know what is this fault Plz send me detail for this fault and solution.
The problem could be a power supply module that supplies various voltages to the instrument panel (IPC). If it is acting up, it can make this buzzing noise. If that is it, it will eventually fail and the IPC gauges will stop working.
First. The whirring or buzzing sound you hear is the Color Wheel and it needs to be replaced. Second, since I do not know when and if the original lamp has been replaced it is a good idea to replaced the lamp. The bad Color Wheel is the one causing the set to shut down.
if you do not hear a high-pitched whir or a loud buzzing when you start it up, you have a bad colorwheel. if the colorwheel is bad, the lamp won't light. if the colorwheel and the fans are ok, you may have a bad lamp. remove the lamp and check for bulges, black spots, fogging or flaking. also see if there is dust caked on the vent screen on the lamp. if you have any of those, replace the lamp. it is blown.
After calling an engineer it turns out it was a faulty fan (The loud whirring should have given this away...) Apparently this is a relatively common fault with this type of boiler. Only solution is to replace the fan which, as of 2010 is still under warranty and can't be bought separately, so you'll need to call Ferrolli.
