Here is what I did to fix the problem of the bar-code scanner not going to next line after a successful scan. (Symbol ls4000i,This fix should work for other models as well)

1. Get the manual for your scanner or here is a link to the Symbol LS400i
https://docs.symbol.com/manuals/3789802a.pdf
You will want to print off few pages that have the proper bar-codes for programming.

2. I usually start with setting scanner to the Default Parameter, this should be in section 5-7,page 50 of the manual.PRINT IT
Warning! If you set scanner to default, you need to be aware of which bar-code types you use. (We use UPC-A) Also if you have it programed for other things already you may not want to set all settings to default. You can skip to step 4. If you do not wish to reset all values to default.

Now scan the Default bar-code.

3. Now program scanner to Enable your bar-code type. (For us Enable UPC-A bar-code is in section 5-22,page 66. PRINT IT

Now Scan the Enable (your bar-code type UPC-A, UPC-E,etc etc)

4.Next You need to set a Suffix Value. The scan Suffix bar-code is found in section 5-80, page 124. PRINT IT

Now Scan the Scan Suffix bar-code

This prepares the scanner for the code of the whatever Suffix you want to add.

5. The Suffix you want to add to fix this particular problem is ENTER. So that it goes to the next line. There is a prefix/suffix value chart on page 162 table A-4. The code for ENTER Is 7013. In order to enter this code you will need to print off the Numeric Bar Codes found in section 5-109,5-110,pages 153,154. PRINT IT

Now scan in 7013 one number at a time to program ENTER as the suffix.

6.Now you have to program the Scan Data Transmission Format found in section 5-81,5-82, pages 125,126 . PRINT IT
(This lets the scanner know to transmit the Suffix after the data.)

First scan the Scan Options Bar-code.
Second scan the <DATA><SUFFIX> bar-code.

Last scan the ENTER Bar-Code.

YOUR DONE !

Your scanner should be working now. Also look through the manual there are some nice functions that can be turned on and off with a simple bar code scan. Such as volume and tone of beep etc etc.

Hope this helps

Hi,

This can be possible, therefore it is not an Excel setting. You would need
to use the software that comes with your bar-code reader to configure this.

Try looking in your bar-code reader documentation for "Append Enter" or
"Append Carriage Return"

How can I create a Barcode for Free in Microsoft Excel?

<p>Placing barcode equipment or other things makes it easier to keep track of them. Instead of entering a long number, a quick scan with a bar code reader eliminates keystrokes. There are many different types of barcodes. The most famous is the Product Code or UPC Universal, in almost all items sold at retail in the United States. The UPC format only supports encryption of the songs. Other formats such as Code 39 (also known as Code 3 of 9) support letters and numbers. <br /> <p><br /> <p>1. Find a free TrueType font to the desired shape of the bar code. For example, the Code bar code format is 39 different TrueType font packages available free. Use an Internet search engine and type "Code 39 TrueType fonts" available in a free font found. Some specialized formats may not be available for free as a result of copyright or other restrictions. <br /> <p><br /> <p>2. On your Windows PC, select the Start menu and click Control Panel. Within the Control Panel, click Switch to Classic View "and appearance of the panel. Find the" Fonts "icon and double click to open it. On the File menu, select" Install New Font. "This opens a menu dialog asking you to change the font to install. Navigate to the folder that contains the downloaded TrueType font file. Select the font and click OK when prompted to install it. The source of new bar code will be available in Excel. <br /> <p><br /> <p>3. Start Excel and enter "98765" in cell A1. This value is converted to a bar. <br /> <p><br /> <p>4. In cell B1, type the following formula: "= CONCATENATE ("*", "*")" A1 and press enter. The result should be "* 98765 *". Code 39 format requires an asterisk at the beginning and end of the text to be encrypted. Bar code format other will have different rules. <br /> <p><br /> <p>5. Change the font in cell A1, choosing a different font from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen in Excel. Under the menu "Home", scroll down to "three of the nine free" source and select it. The text in the cell will now appear as a barcode. Increase font with a minimum of 28 points, so a scanner can pick up the scanning needs. <br />

How do I read Barcodes in Microsoft Excel?

<p>Bar code symbols are composed of a number of adjacent bars and spaces of different widths of pre-defined codes. A barcode scanner is used to read or scan the bar code symbol to represent the information to decode. Once the symbol is scanned by a handheld reading device or another, can then be used by computer software to track inventory and perform other functions. Microsoft Excel is a computer application that use bar code information can make the business perform. <br /> <p><br /> <p>1. Insert bar code scanner to your computer using the "interface cable keyboard wedge". The keyboard wedge interface cable looks like the printer port of your computer, and differs only in that a connection between the scanner bar code and serial number of your computer or USB port. The cable is provided as a peripheral pattern with hand-held bar code scanners. <br /> <p><br /> <p>2. Open Microsoft Excel on your computer after the bar code scanner connected to your computer. <br /> <p><br /> <p>3. Links on the Excel cell to the bar code to enter and bar code scanning to load it into Microsoft Excel. <br /> <p><br /> <p>4. What would I put under the suffix and prefix when bar coding? My scanner is Symbole LS 2208

Hello Norma, you can use the suffix or prefix to send characters, which are not included in the barcodes tgehter with the scanned barcode data.
If you dont need any character before or after the data, you can leave it blank.
It is usually used to add an Enter or Tab to switch to the next line, while scanning to some application like excel.

Hi, i am trying to configure my barcode scanner LS2208 to put a {TAB} in when scanning

There should have been a sheet or book of bar codes that came with your scanner. These codes will allow you to program your scanner to do most anything, including adding a tab. You simply look at the bar codes and read what they do. you simply scan the one that adds a tab and it will forever add the tab unless you re program it.

If you have lost your book/bar code page, you should be able to go to the manufacturer website and download/print a document with the programmable bar codes.

Scanner displays on a same row in excel how do I get it to automatically move the curser to the next line on my second code scan

If you would like the scanner to drop down to the next line scan the barcodes Scan Options, Data Suffix, Enter from the Quick Start Guide that should have come with the scanner. If you do not have the QRG then download the Product Reference Guide from this link:
http://support.symbol.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=5880806apdf&sliceId=&dialogID=134926365&stateId=0%200%2014579837

The barcodes are on Adobe pages 222 and 223 of 342 in this manual.
