If it is printing only the tops of the letters the platen has worked loose. Press down firmly on both ends it should snap into place. If the print is generally bad the plastic print solenoid cap is probably broken. We sell them for 20.00 includes shipping and instructions.

A repair man had come in and that is exactly what he said. The platen was just loose enough that you didn't see it.

Typewriter is only typing the top half of each letter- changed ribbon- still doesn't type the bottom of the letters ???

typing the top half of each letter Donna, sounds like the carriage spool is stuck or out of adjustment. Not to hard, but pick up typewriter and slam it down on counter to see if it put carriage and spool back in position.
Good luck.

IBM Wheelwriter 2, the bottom half of the letters are not printing. It is not the ribbon because I have changed it out.

Two things come to mind for this problem. First try pushing down firmly on both ends of the black rubber platen roller. Sometimes the black plastic latch on either side may break causing one side of the roller to lift up causing partial print. The other possibility is the ribbon is not lifting correctly. A technician can adjust the ribbon lift. After typing a few letters, take the ribbon out and look at the letters on the ribbon. Are they in the middle of the ribbon or are they at the top or bottom of the ribbon? middle of ribbon is correct.

I have an IBM Wheelwriter 15 Series II and the ribbon needed replaced so we replaced it, now when you try to top it just types the top half of the letters??????

Make sure both tabs on the rear of the cartridge are in their respective slots. If that does not work, try pushing down on the black platen roller on both ends. If one side is not locked in place, you will get half letters.

Typing half letters

If it was working befor you changed the ribbon check to be sure the ribbon's feet are engaged in the slots on the ribbon deck, that the blue latch is latched and there isn't a fold in the ribbon. If all of these are OK push down firmly on both ends of the platen.

Wheelwriter 30 series 2.

Put in a multi part form and type if the print is good on the carbons the problem is ribbon or ribbon lifting, if the print is poor the print solenoid cap is probably cracked. We sell the cap with instructions and shipping for 20.00.

Only part of a letter appears when typed

You can try code I to increase the impression but probably the print solenoid is gummy or the plastic solenoid is broken. We sell the caps with installation instructions for 20.00 includes freight. DickyO Cleveland Business Machines 216-241-0027

Only part of the character/letter is showing

make sure the ribbon is latched into place (should lock down) also check on the ribbon itself to make sure the print is in the middle of the ribbon and not on the very bottom, if the ribbon is locked down and types of the bottom of the ribbon, it is out of adjustment. if the ribbon looks ok, move the paper scale (the plastic piece on top of the platen) up out of the way, then push down sharply on the platen. if it moves down and clickes into place, it should work OK.

IBM Wheelwriter 30 series II - prints only half a letter

If it types only the top half yhe platen is probably not all the way in. Make sure the 2 black latches are lined up with the side frames then press down firmly on both sides of the platen.
