Where is the defrost timer located on my GE Profile model PDS22LBN? Thank you

Remove the control knobs by pulling them. remove the plastic shield the knobs went through, and your timer is to the right, you'll see a hole to stick you screwdriver in to turn it. There is no control board. You need to remove all shelves in the freezer section, and remove the back in the freezer panel to get access to the evap and heaters. Hope this helps get you in the right direction.

Re: Tempurature Problems

The thermostat is likely failing intermittently, or the defrost timer could be failing.

Both parts can be tested (and should have been) by the repairman.

The defrost timer turns on and off to let the coils defrost - but if it stays off - can cause the rise in temperature. The thermostat, however, reports the temperature to the timer, so either (or both) could be to blame.

Have them tested.

Freezer defrost cycle

If the defrost timer sticks in the defrost mode, yes. Normal defrost time is 30 minutes or less depending upon which timer is installed.
If it happens again, locate the defrost timer and turn the dial manually to see if the compressor comes back on. If so,replace the timer.
It is probably on the rear near the compressor. Some are under the front behind the dust guard.

Coils freeze up,refridgerator and freezer stops working

The defrost cycle is not working properly, there are three things involved in system. #1 Defrost timer in refrigerator #2 Thermostat on coils to tell if unit is frozen #3 heater element located under coils thaws coils when frozen. the defrost timer if it is manual < located at the front of light assembly panel in top of refrigerator there will be a hole with a plastic piece that resembles a screw strait screw head> it turns and every 8hrs aprox. it stops operations and starts defrost cycle by allowing voltage to the thermostat and if thermostat is frozen it allows power to element for thawing coils. If defrost timer is manual look for direction it is facing and mark edge to see if timer is turning< very slow turning and is easiest way> if you can get an ohm meter ohm the element on high setting< if it has continuity element is operable> check wiring just to be sure not problem. If you find the timer does turn and doesn't stay in one position over 40 minutes then the thermostat is bad.If element fails tesing then the element is bad and if timer stays in one position then it is bad. If unit is equiped with electronic defrost timer and element is good in would replace timer and thermostat to guaranty that resolved problem

Fridge stopped working, freezer still works

As per ur prob light going out is a separate problem. If the freezer is still working and the fan in the freezer operating check for frost on the back wall. If there is frost on the back wall you have a defrost system problem.
Possible open heater, bad timer, or defrost thermostat. If the freezer is not working check for power to it. Reset the breaker if necessary.
If the light went out because of some power loss the freezer would not be working

Freezer does not work

The unit may be stuck in a defrost mode.Check the timer.Turn the knob to take it out of defrost. The unit will start up when this is done and the defrost timer is the culprit.
