Where do I find on the motherboard, the battery for the Advent netbook

Since you did not include the model number of the netbook, I will give you a couple of generic locations where you may find the CMOS battery.
It could be tucked away under the keyboard encased in yellow plastic; or on some models, you would find it by removing the battery pack; remove the large cover over the cooling fan; in the upper left corner is a white oblong cover with two screws- remove that piece and the CMOS battery should be held in place with tape.

If I remove the battery on my mother board will I lose my settings??

The CMOS battery really doesn't hold too much. It mostly saves things like date and time, but since the advent of the internet, most of the CMOS settings are re-calibrated every time you connect to the internet(most of us are connected at all times now). Change it at will. You probably won't notice any change at all.

Advent 5431 date keeps changing back to 2008

IS your TimeZone is Correct?
Right click on your clock, choose Adjust Date/Time.
Click Time Zone Tab. Make sure your Time zone is correctly set.

Boot into the BIOS (setup) screens and check the date and time there. If the date is off by years then that verifies you need a new CMOS battery. Do not confuse the CMOS battery with the large external battery you run the computer with.

You need to contact your pc manufacturer.
Tell them to provide you with the steps to remove and reseat the CMOS battery.
Then remove and reseat the CMOS battery which holds the BIOS password.

Advent 7000

The Cmos or (RTC) battery lives with the hard drive on these models. Simply turn the laptop over and release the hard drive, the battery is in the same compartment.

Battery needed for an e systems ei 3115 laptop

I am lead to believe that the EI Systems 3115 uses an Advent made battery, these retail at about £30 last time I looked. You can get them on the Partmaster website.

Main Battery Power

It cannot switched the batteries. The backup one is a small internal battery just to keep the CMOS with data. That's it.

If you main battery is not charging or when unplugged won't power on, the is likely the main battery is defective, or the charging circuitry of it is failing.
