I have had the same problem more than once, it is not broken! do not throw away or send it to someone to be fixed! I am guessing that everyone with this problem has had a paper jam which involves taking off the back panel. If this is the case then it is simply a case that it has not been put back properly. I thought for several attempts I had but it back properly, but there are 4 pins which come out the side when you turn the catch, unless these are fully extended it will not work. You will know when it works because turning the catch is smooth. So even if it seems that it is in if the printer still doesnt work try again.
Luckily I had the problem the first time 3 days before the warranty expired, so tech support told me to replace the cover and it worked first time. This time a year later I thought I was doing the right thing but didnt realise until many attempts later that the cover wasnt reconnected when i thought it was.
The problem is the rear door not "correctly" closed. Try to remove it and put again in place. I've got the same problem twice, and both times I was sure the door was closed, but when I double checked it wasn't.

I have found you need to be very accurate with the placement of the of the paper guide box and ensure it is completely locked in to ensure the printer will turn on. This is the manual feed box at rear of the printer. Cheers Yoga2
When I printed powerpoint documents on a hp deskjet 1280 it failed to print lines. I found that this problem could be solved by changing the transparency attribute of the line to 50%. The transparency attribute of a line or shape can be found by clicking on the sequence format/shape-outline/more-outline-colours/transparency at the top of the screen
