Canon pixma mp170 all-in-one printer

I am assuming this is a new printer install. You have to go thru the entire printer and remove ALL the shipping tapes. This one was worse than my HP all in one, which had 12 pieces.

Error Code 5100
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

Canon MP170 (Ink Tank Full Error):

1 - power off.
2 - hold stop/reset ,hold ON/OFF
3 - release stop/reset, push stop/reset twice, quickly, then release ON/OFF
4 - wait untill LCD display shows "Canon Idle",then push stop/reset four times, quickly
5 - then push power twice, quickly
6 - power off and power on.

Try this... it worked on my MP450... Turn the printer on and open the lid, it shows the cartridges. Now let the cartridges settle to the left. You can notice that the cartridges run on a metal belt. It might be dirty, mine showed a black stripe on it. Take a cloth, a cleenex will be fine and clean it up. Move the cartridges to the right (force them with your hand) and clean the part of the belt left behind them. Now turn it off, close it up and turn it back on. It should work

I had the same problem too. Brand new unit and 5100 error comes on after power up. There is nothing jaming the ink cartiage, and it only moves a little bit to the left then jams back to the right. I can't even load in new ink cartiages. It's going back to the shop today.

primeramente me salio 5100 pero luego paso a 6000 no se lo que puede pasar ya que no se mueven los cartuchos y no hace el reseteo cuando la enciendo y solamente me sale COMPRUEBE IMPRESORA Y SALE 6000 ERROR. en espera me sean indicados los problemas que se puedan subsanar un saludfo
