This is not something that is easy to work on since it is a laptop. About the only thing you can try is removing the battery and see if that works. Some laptops use smart batteries that tell the computer not to start if the battery is exhausted and no longer good.
If you can see the SSID for the router from a WiFi device then it sounds like a security key issue. While connected through a cable login to the router. You should be able to trouble shoot the WiFi service from the router UI.
I understood your problem...first check your laptop WIFI is on/off....after switching it on it automatically search for WIFI connectivity arround you...
If your father's laptop find/access that WIFI device then you have problem in code authentication....best solution is that you should remove authentication check....before connecting ..
Second thing is that such a problem cause due to improper installation of of wirless broadcom drivers for your eMachine e350......so ultimately you should re-install wifi drivers from provided CD/DVD...
Restart your device it automatically detect hardware and functions properly...
Thank you for giving me opportunity to solve your problem.
On a lot of laptops there is a switch on the side or front of the laptop facing. If not then there might be a FN+key to access it. And by that I mean that you have to hold down the FN key and press the corresponding F# key to activate it. Such as FN+F6. Most of the time the Wifi logo looks like an antenna with waves coming out of the top of it.
Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter Driver is only here First download for your brand After you start installation, I think it's everything on RUSSIAN Very first window you should choose first upper one - that means English ENJOY. P.S. Don't go here http://www.atheros.cz - it's scam.
Make sure your WIFI switch is turned on. Most recently made laptops have a switch to turn off and on the WIFI capabilities on the side of the laptop physically. If that's on I would return the laptop if its still under warranty.
What type of compaq is your laptop? If it is a HP Pavilion dv2000/dv6000/dv9000 and Compaq Presario v3000/v6000 series Notebook - HP has a limited warranty service. Also the F500 series is included. The wifi has disabled itself on these laptops and hp is aware of the problem. The wlan usually will not come back on after the computer restarted. Also they list some updates and trouble shooting to do prior to giving them a call. You will have to try the trouble shooting before calling them. The hp support will also make you go through some trouble shooting and if that doesn't work they will verify if your laptop series is eligible for the enhanced repair due to the hardware issues that they are aware of. Because of the hardware issue HP has extended the warranty from 12months to 24 months on the above series.
