Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a compaq laptop that I use to connect to the internet. I am on a dial-up connection. Yesterday morning it just quit accessing the internet. I have spoken with AT&T who is my ISP and they spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with me. I am using Internet Explorer as my web browser. Any ideas.

I have already checked that out. It is unchecked. Any other thoughts?

Is there a phone number I can call someone on? I live in the country and have a dial up connection. Right now I am at a public library about 20 miles from my home. If so, it would be awesome.

I cant get wireless

In Internet explorer
Got to Tools (ALT+T) in browser
Pick Internet Options in Menu
Pick Connections Tab and change the connection type from dial-up to nothing.
Then it will pick up your LAN settings for your wireless connection.

Computer buffering

Most likely is your Internet connection.

Could you post more details?

Just from the description, your Internet connection to YouTube servers may be slow, which can be a) your actual Internet connection speed or b) YouTube servers, which COULD be bogged down by activity (slightly unlikely, but it could happen).

The problem will go away either on its own or if you get a faster Internet speed service. You are most definitely going to experience this if you are trying to access content using dial-up, but you may also experience this with higher speeds and trying to access HD content (which is much more data to receive).

Try resetting your wireless modem/router, this usually fixes wireless problems. if it doesn't the access point may now be password protected.

My wifes laptop is trying to use DUN instead of network cable

Open up Internet Options (from the Tools menu in IE or right-clicking the desktop icon and selecting Properties, or through the Control Panel). On the Connections tab, select 'Never dial a connection.' When you want to connect to your ISP you will be required to manually start the dial-up connection.

Wont keep passwords

Go into your firewall and allow TCPI connections.
And most anything related to your internet connection allow.
If you are running Vista the fire wall has most everything shut down as default settings so you need to change it to allow your IP address access.
Also in Vista you have to allow or not allow sharing in the control panel under networking.
