My Grasslin Digi 20E-120 timer will not set time or timer. The 1-7 numbers blink. What does this mean?

A

Digi 20E-120 is 16Amp 120Volt flush mount digital timer with 20 or 140 programs per week.
Grasslin Digi (digi tal/ digital) can be reset using reset button.
Reset might restore functionality, but will delete all programming.

Check that circuit is delivering 120Volt and that circuit is clean without interference.

Also check electrical terminals fit tight on the timer.
Use needle nose pliers and pull terminals off and then push back.
The digi series has 5-day program back-up capacitor so programs should remain, but capacitors go bad.
Power surge can blow out timers. Use surge protection on all circuits.

There are a many Digi timers from years of manufacture by GE and now Intermatic, since Intermatic bought Grasslin from GE.
The digi can be replaced with simple-to--program FM1D digital timer.

Replacement crossover is FM1D20E-120

No power is coming out of the timer. How do I troubleshoot?

GE15207
-Test across terminals 1 and 2 for 120-277 volt depending on power
-Check if any wires are loose
-Check if any terminals appear burned or damaged
-This timer can be wired many many ways, for seveveral different voltages.
-Testing can differ depending on wiring and voltage.
-For 240 Volt ... generally... set timer to ON position... Test across both NO terminals for voltage
-Add comment with image of wiring and specify the voltage
-Links that help identify problem, wiring, and voltage

Can I put my central heating on a different time from my water horstmann didam 425

It appears there are 4 trippers on the daily time dial that control all timing. 2 On and 2 OFF

On the right side are override switches for Hot water and Heating
You can only separate Hot water and Heater programming a little bit.
You can choose to have Hot water ON all day, or turn on-off once per day or turn on-off twice a day. Or OFF all day.
The Heater has the same options and the same on-off times as the Hot water.

Manual:
http://www.horstmann.co.uk/files/2513/9867/2118/user_guide_425-TiaraDiadem1.pdf

For fully separate programming, where Hot water and Heater can each be programmed differently, you would need a 2-channel controller like the Grasslin QE2

Can you turn off a 120V water heater by unplugging it (or installing a switch in the cord)? Will it turn back on when plugged in again? It will be outside and I want to control costs without going...

Yes the water heater will operate normally when power resumes.
Yes you can unplug 120volt water heater... and it's similar to a toaster oven or space heater, about 1000 to 1500 watts.
Or install a wall-type switch to turn it on-off, or install a FM1 timer module.

How do you override the timer if you want to turn off or on outside the preset timer programme

1) Is this the Towerchron QE2?
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Grasslin-QE1-QE2_GB instructions.pdf

2) Page 8: While slide switch is in run-own-program or run-preset-program mode, you can override by pressing select button until arrow points to Boost, or arrow points to ADV.
This will reverse program until next set point.

3) Add comment and describe which timer you have.

I have installed a new adjustable thermostat unit (E1-BCANRT1W). Temp is set at 91 deg and I am using the timer. Two time periods are set and the switch is set to timer (not ON). The unit comes on at...

Double check your slide switch.
For timer: set switch to TIMER
For thermostat: set switch to ON
If slide switch does not operate, then Autocirc may be defective

http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Auto-circ-manual.pdf
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html

1) Household AC wiring will not affect the timer.
You can check your outlet using cheap circuit analyzer from home center.
The clock rotates one direction and the pins push small lever down which turns motor on-off.
When the OFF pins pass, the small lever snaps back and the motor turns ON.

I cannot immediately find operation manual for the E-1 model.
Typical ACT303 auto circ manual says following:

2) If timer controlled operation is desired, set timer and move slide switch to TIMER:
Manual says: tabs/pins are outward for ON times.
Another sentence says UPWARD, so I don't know which way the pins are set for sure.
So if you want timer ON for 2 hours, you would set 4 consecutive pins outward or upward.
ON for 6 hours, set 12 consecutive pins outward or upward.
If the timer turns ON in reverse of instructions, then set the pins that way.
Autocirc does not make the timer, they buy timer modules from clock-makers like Grasslin, Intermatic, etc.

3) To operate Autocir thermostatically without the timer, slide switch to ON position.
The clock dial will continue rotating

Replacement timer motor needed

If you have Intermatic timer, then clock motors are available for most hard-wire box-type timers. Most pool and spa timer modules are available or have same/similar replacements. If you have plug-in timer, including power pack or portable outdoor timer or indoor plug-in or in-wall timer, then no clock motors are available.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-trippers-and-parts.html

If you have Tork timer, then clock motor is available for 1100 series.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Tork-timers-and-manuals.html
If you have Paragon timer, clock motors will be hard to find
http://waterheatertimer.org/Paragon-timers-and-manuals.html
If you have other brands of timer, then clock motors are not available except Deihl, DIGI and Grasslin timer modules, but post brand and model number of timer so I can search my files.

make sure you purchased nthe correct timer and not a 220 volt timer for water heater use , you could still turn on and off manually but you would need 220 volt to run timer may sound silly but i have seen it several times before , look on the door plate and be sure it is a 120 volt 1 phase tmr motor
