This is my 3rd Kodak ESP-3. Last one would not print, but scanner worked just fine. Now I can print and I can't get scanner to work correctly. Called Kodak and they were no help. Said my issue was my home center software -- for whatever reason I guess I don't have it or it doesn't function correctly on the MacBook OSX 10.5.4 --
hmmm scanner scans lower 2/3 of a 4.5 x 3.5 snapshot no matter what I do.
I persisted in finding a solution with the help of Kodak but the solution was that the scanner was flawed and the printer is being replaced - AGAIN. The first tech I talked with was clueless and absolutely no help. The second person went through some steps with me and determined, once again, there is a flaw in the printer -- the 3rd replacement. The first printer had a print-head problem out of the box, so it was returned to the store & exchanged for another. The replacement worked for some 3 months without a hitch and then stopped working - just would not print, but the scanner worked. So I just rec'd my Kodak ESP-3 number 3 on Tuesday this week. Printer worked, scanner didn't. Now I am waiting for my 4th replacement. It is ridiculous, but when it does work, it is a nice little printer -- quality of photo printing is great, and you can't beat the cost of the ink refills. And so it goes.

Next try a new USB cable and plugging the unit into a different port. If you use a print server or USB hub, try connecting directly to the computer. Scanners need bi-directional communication with the computer and thus are likely to have issues even if the printer doesn't.
Can the scanning software on the computer initiate the scan? (That is in the full software package. Alternatively Vista came with Paint and File> Import from Camera or Scanner > New Scan.)
go to www.kodak.com/go/printheadsupport.click on 3rd link on how to replace a printhead.
then take cartridges out and printhead out, after 1 minute, insert printhead back into the carriage and install both cartridges, go to kodak aio home center on ur desktop and from there on maintenance under help and select printhead cleaning. then try to print.ur problem will be resolved
If you are getting a 1-2036 error then there maybe an conflict between the Kodak TWAIN driver and another TWAIN device, most of the time it is with a flat bed scanner. If you have another All in One printer or scanner connected unplug it and uninstall its drivers. If the issue continues uninstall the Kodak software and unhook the kodak printer. Then download the kodak clear utility from HERE After the utility runs and you restart your computer Re-install the Kodak Printer software and select WEB install to get the latest version.
Hopefully that will solve your Home Center scanning issue.
To clean the printhead press: COPY and CANCEL at the same time.
To print a test page press: QUALTITY and CANCEL at the same time.
Go to Kodak AIO home center, click on the"?" and open the "user guide" for the complete manual. Wish they put in a printed version, put they don't. Good luck with the printer, mind has been nothing but problems. And keep trick of what you print. You will be shocked at the low output. Report it to Kodak and they might sent you new inks.
you need to uninstall the software and reinstall it, if you have not tried that. For XP Start-->control panel-->add/remove programme-->look for Kodak Printer software and uninstall it. For Vista Start-->control panel-->programmes and features and uninstall the software. Run the Kodak clear utility from http://unexpectedtwist4u.com/matthew and click on clear utility and you can either run it or save it first and then run it. Make sure to unplug the USB cable after uninstalling the software and reinstall the software from www.kodak.com/go/esp3downloads. Kodak phone support is open from 9 am to 12 midnight EST. Hope that works:)
My son has the same model and issue. I had him go to http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/downloads/dln_ekn034524.jhtml?pq-path=12667 and get the latest software and firmware update.
Make sure to use the dropdown to select your operating system. The page defaults to XP.
The software is a new version of the AIO home center.
The firmware installer updates the physical printer. Before you run this program be sure to read and understand the instructions.
If both ink cartridges have good levels of ink, and you keep getting the clean the print head issue after updating both the software and the firmware, then call Kodak support. 1-800-421-6699, 7 A.M. to midnight Eastern time, 7 days a week. They will ask you if you put in new cartridges and installed the updates for the firmware and the AiO centre software. Be patient. They will get a solution for you.
