I have a grey/black line all the way down the right hand side of the page

Run a half test.
Put paper in the manual feed tray.
Print something, anything
When the paper is 1/2 way into the printer, open the cover.
Pull out the toner cartridge. Look down at the paper.
Does it have a black line on the right side?
If yes, replace the cartridge. If no, replace the fuser.

When I try to print, a large black vertical streak runs on the right side of the page, in the same place every time Sometimes the streak is a small line, other times it is very black and is 2 inches...

This issues looking printer head problem. check the following Steps for cleaning printer head :

Click on the Start button if you have Windows XP. If you have Windows Vista, click the Windows icon that resides in the lower left corner of your computer screen.

Click on "Control Panel," then "Printers and Other Hardware." Finally click on "View Installed Printers or Fax Printers."

Right-click on the name of your printer and choose "Printing Preferences." This should open a new window; next look for a tab or button marked Maintenance, or something similar.

Find the button that says "Print heads" or "Clean the Print heads" and click on it. You may be asked to choose which print heads; choose them all if you are. Make sure there is paper and ink in your printer, and that it is turned on ahead of time.

Take out the page your printer has printed and see if there are any grids or boxes missing. If there aren't, then you can just exit the program--your print heads are not clogged. If there are grids missing, then click on the "Cleaning" or similarly worded button.

Once the cleaning process has completed, print another page to be sure that your print heads are no longer clogged. If they are still clogged, repeat Steps 1-5 until your printer is printing clearly.

DELL 1720 PRINTER PRINTS VERY SLOWLY.

Whenever I have a customer tell me their printer seems to be running slower, 9 times out of 10 its what they're trying to print...not the printer. Heres a couple of things to do and ask yourself. First I'd do a test print from the printer itself. Does it kick it right out? Then go to the printer folder on the computer, right click on the printer, go to properties..click print test page. Does that come out pretty quick? Okay if they seem relatively fast then its beginning to look like something other than the printer. Try printing the job that seems to run slow. Then try printing from a different program. Is there a difference in speed? The job that prints slow may have graphics or require more memory then it use to. Perhaps you changed the graphics content on the page and the printerr is taking more time to process it. Adding more memory to the printer can help that.

Did you make any software change to the printer about the same time you noticed the slow down?
Have you changed the font color in the computer to something other than black for that particular print job? I've seen monochrome (black and white) laser printers slow down because its trying to convert the job to say violet or some other color. Its a black text printer and apparently printing color confuses it ..lol My bet is..if you really sit down and think back...something changed in the content of what your printing thats taking it longer to process it. Hope this helps!

The printed pages with black is light and spotty.

Hello,
Try to run the "Clean Print Heads" utility. Sometimes it is called something else, but whenever your print quality degrades, this is a good program to run. If that doesn't work, then I would suggest replacing the print cartridge. Sometimes they go bad if they have not been used for a long time. Hope this helps!

My printer wont write, it only prints out the images and colour

Here's the fix for the black not printing...Take the black ink cartridge out and punch a hole in the round dark circle at top right of cartridge with an ice pick or something sharp. Blow in the hole and make sure you have something under it just in case the ink starts dropping. Clean the bottom and put it back in and it should work.

Yellow Lines on every print

If the optics are clean (use lint free cloth on 4 rows of black thingys underside of lid)

Then it sounds like the yellow drum needs to be replaced, when printing in word I'm guessing that you have it set to B/W prints hence no colour is engaged, no lines
