You must enable the DHCP setting on wireless router if you've configured the computer's wireless adapter to obtain an IP address automatically. If not you will get the "failed to acquire an IP address" error when you try to connect to wireless network! Also don't forget to configure big enough IP range on router's DHCP setting, because the router won't be able to assign IP to 6 computers if you only configured 5 IP space on router.

WRT4G2 VI wireless router. I was upating the firmware when the power flashed. I have no access to the router's gui and the router is not broadcasting. I am not getting a dhcp address

do a hard reset for the router by pressing the reset button for 10-20 seconds...
check whether its getting a dhcp address...
if it is still not getting an ip address, then try to assign a static ip address in the range of your router on your computer...

for example...
The default ip address of linksys is 192.168.1.1.............
then assign

IP address 192.168.1.5
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.1

Also assign a static DNS
Primary DNS : 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS : 8.8.4.4

Now try to open the GUI of your router...

Can't connect to my linksys wrt54gx2 router and even when I do, it tells me there is an ip address conflict and disconnects me

try to connect using a LAN Cable (Wired) connection. and then try to access 192.168.0.1 you should be able to see wireless settings there.

IP address must not be the same with the IP Address of other computers in your house. look for the Range and Increase it so that the router could have a wider range of IP Address to choose from.

MY LINKSYS WRT54G2 IS OK BUT CAN'T FIND SERVER.

The Linksys WRT54G2 is Cable/DSL router with 4 port switch. It has many features including a built-in DHCP server. By default, it's IP address is 192.168.1.1, username: blank and password: admin.

Plug in the Modem to the Linksys router's Internet / WAN port then plug your PC's to any of the 4 ports (1,2,3 & 4). The Linksys router once turned ON will automatically provide your PC with IP address starting with 192.168.1.xx (x means number from 100-149).

Make sure that known working ethernet cables are being used. Check your computer's IP adress by going to the command prompt. Start>RUN>type CMD then press Enter. Type IPCONFIG and check the IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.100). Check you PC's network adapter if you don't get an IP address from the Linksys router.

You may opt to reset the router by pressing the reset button at the back for 30 seconds if it fails to give out DHCP.

Cheers!

Lost DHCP connection. I changed nothing on my config

Hi,

You may want to press and hold (using a pen or a paper clip) the reset button of the router for 30 seconds and then unplug the power of the router. Turn off the modem, wait for 10 seconds, turn on the modem, and then the router, and make sure that the modem is connected to the internet port of the router and PC to the ethernet port (1, 2, 3 or 4). See if the router will obtain an IP address from the modem. If not, download here http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT54G2/download the latest firmware for the router.

Ensure that you download the correct version for the router.

It connects but after a minute or more it resets itself

Possibly conflicting networks or devices sharing the same channel. I would "link" with the unit via RJ45 and change the frequency and channel to prevent any other interference.

Windows vista laptop lost connection to the internet

Start off simple. Try a different port on the router. If that doesn't work, try a new cable. If that doesn't work, go to the Device Manager in Windows. (Right-click My Computer, select Manage, go to Device Manager). Does the card look okay? Has it been disabled or need a driver update? If we're still looking at issues then I would take a look at your router security. How many DHCP licences do you allowed to be assigned? Also do you have security in place (WEP/WPA, Mac Filtering, SSID Broadcast)? If you are light on security and only have a few assignable DHCP licences, you may have neighbors leeching your internet access.

To clarify: DHCP assigns a network IP address to each device on its network. Most Linkys routers have a default of 10, you may have reduced this yourself. If you have, you've limited the # of devices allowed on the network. So if you have 3 DHCP licenses available, and a couple neighbors are leeching, your Dell may not get assigned an ip.

If you still need further help, let me know.

hi there ...

your isp is at&t? please verify the ip address straight to the modem if its is 192.168.1.1 and if your modem from your isp is set to DHCP or BRIDGE mode.

IF IP address is 192.168.1.1 (DHCP)
... change the LAN IP address of the router to 192.168.2.1 or 5.1 to prevent any IP conflict
by doing this :

1. access setup page of router usually 192.168.1.1
2. under setup tab look for the ip address, change it, then save
3. click on the status tab , and look for a VALID ip address

IF MODEM is set to BRIDGE mode
.... please ask username and password from your ISP coz we would need to set your router to PPOE...
1. access setup page
2. under setup tab look for INTERNET CONNECTION TYPE
3. select PPPoE
fill in username and password
select "keep"alive
save
4. click on status tab
look for LOG in TYPe ===> click CONNECT
if connected : check a valid IP address
if authentication failed verify again your username and password from your ISP

Goodluck!
