Thanks for that, in the end I took it to a local reoair shop they fixed it in two minutes at no charge. Don't really know what the problem was but nothing series I guees. Incedently it is the 300 series I dont know if the mechanics are the same.

Some Sat Navs can't convert, If it's bought & set to UK & Ireland maps, then you are stuck. 2nd thing , even if you can use Europe Maps on your Sat Nav, you still will be unable, to load USA maps.
Sat Nav not compatable, You will have to buy a NEW ONE.
All User Guides are available for all units at Garmin.com. Navigate to your unit, and then to the download section for that unit. You can also update your unit's internal software at the same site.

To increase the accuracy of your Garmin Nuvi 205W, I recommend you use Garmin's WebUpdater service to make sure you have the latest software on your device. Software improvements for acquiring satellite lock and location accuracy have been made.
i have the same problem.it stuck at one place.reset does not help
