How to configure my router with laptop? - NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

If you have a wireless router and it is connected to the DSLor cable modem and Internet then -To connect to your wireless router, the router needsits wireless settings to be configured with the SSID, encryption key etc., alsothe wireless cards and wireless adapters in all the laptops/computers needs tobe configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router and access the Internet via the DSLor cable modem.To connect to your wireless router, the router's wirelesssettings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also thewireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with theserouter's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicatewith your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down andput it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

You Internet access is through the cable or DSL modem.
Connect your wireless router to the cable or DSL modem and then configure the wireless router with the wireless encryption settings. Then configure the wireless cards in the laptops with the router's encryption settings etc. This will then allow the laptops to connect wirelesslt to the wireless router and the Internet.

The passphrase is a way of setting up the encryption code in the wireless router. This is used to protect your wireless router from unauthorized access.
The passphrase is configured in the router wireless configuration and this configuration is applied to the wireless card in the laptop/computer to allow the laptop/computer to connect to the wireless router.

The Netgear router needs the wireless settings configured i.e SSID, WPA encryption etc and the wireless card in the laptop/computer needs to be configured with the router's wireless settings for the laptop/computer to connect with the Netgear wireless router. The laptop that has trouble connecting to the wireless router, the wireless card in this laptop has not been configured with the router's wireless settings eg. the SSID, encryption key etc

Basically just connect a LAN cable from the computer/laptop to the wireless router, open a browser and enter the configuration URL. The LAN cable is removed after configuration.
Then configure the wireless card in the laptop with the wireless router's settings.

Check DHCP/Manual IP configuration at both ends. I think Router is configured for manual IP configuration and Laptop is configured DHCP.

Hi Drew,

I am assuming by access key your are referring to the pass phrase. The easiest way to approach this would be to use a cable to connect directly to the router from your laptop and confirm the wireless configuration on the router. You may have the pass phrase correct by the router is using WEP and your laptop is set to WPA or visa versa. Confirm the wireless configuration on the router then unplug the laptop from the router and change the configuration for you wireless settings on the laptop.

Hi, As you ave the modem in bridge mode and also it works ine with wired connection just follow the instruction below for wireless
1.Login in to the router - > wireless settings

2.Configure your wireless using SSID and WEP and save settings

3.Laptop : Using windows wireless client configure the client using the same SSID ,WEP as configured in the router(view available wireless network in wireless properties)

(by default OEM wirelesss client takes over the wireless configuration in branded pc.to disable it and use windows wireless client..control panel ->administrative tools -> services -> enabl2 wireless zero configuration)

14.after all configuration shut the desktop,laptop,router,mdm and pwr them in seq..first modem and then router and then your desktop or laptop

make sure you have the wireless lan activated(software/hardware) and also configure your router's wireless setting(connecting thelaptop to the router by ethernet cable).write the wireless configuration down and configure your laptop with the same SSID and WEP key.it shud connect and you shud able to be good to goo..don'tforget to configure your DSL to therouter.post your router/modem/ISP details for further help
