Our Matsui MC170 FridgeFreezer has stopped working. It is just out of the 1 year guarantee period. It has always been very noisy with a harsh rattling sound when the compressor was operating, but this has now stopped of course. The light comes on and the fan seems to come on, so the electricity supply is ok. Curry's, the suppliers, say it might be a manufacturing defect but it is up to us to obtain an engineer's report to confirm it. Surely it must be, as these items must be built with an intended working life of more than 1 year? Any ideas? Many thanks We have tried changing the thermostat settings, switching on and off with different intervals (this worked once before when just the freezer stopped working, but now both parts have stopped)

I'm more than happy to have a look at the item in question to give you a professional opinion leaving you documentation to pass onto Curry's who should then legally look after you with this purchase from them.

SOURCE: Whirlpool upright freezer AFG823NF-Thermostat not working properly

JennyT just trying to help with this. I assume this is a self defrost model. If so then is there an ice build up on the back wall? If so then the unit isn't defrosting. That is why pushing the Fast Freeze button is no longer working. You can get by however. Remove all the food from the freezer, put a vacumn in the freezer and shut the door. Turn on the vacumn, this will pull the warm air thru the freezer and in 30 minutes to an hour it will be defrosted enough to work until you can get someone to replace the 1 of 3 parts that the defrost system uses. The vacumn is what I use to defrost my nonself defrosting freezer. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

SOURCE: Kenmore Upright Freezer Alarm

1. You can hear the compressor running.

2. The temp setting you turn the thermostadt to starts and stops the compressor.

3. Look in your manual for a reset button and the location.

4. If you are familiar with a meter, grab the manual and check it it. But I doubt it is the resistance.

5. Sounds like a bad motor or low freon. If you have a lot of food in it, and the above didn't work, bite the bullet and call a repairman, although it sounds like much of the food is past saving if it is really defrosted.

If the freezer was stored and not running for 7 years it may have lost coolant.  Since the compressor is running recharging the coolant may fix the problem.  Hot compressor might indicate low coolant since its motor is immersed in it.

SOURCE: Whining sound from motor on Frigidaire upright freezer

Hi: It sounds like you bought a frost free freezer as it has a fan. The fan will come on to circulate the air. It will not necessarly run continuosly. The noise is most likely coming from the fan. I sold Frigidaire freezers for years and they are noisy compared to a refridgerator. If you think it is louder than it was when you bought it, I would replace the circulating fan. Also look at the back wall for frost as it could be a bad defrost heater blocking it with ice. Most likely just the fan though. Since it's in a detached garage, and you won't have to put up with the noise inside your house, it could run a while before failing. The fact it's getting cold is a very good sign. Also as you asked 2'nd, a freezer is ok in an unheated garage. Don't put a refrigerator in there. Unless It is a Whirlpoll Gladiator that is designed for such applications. Use www.searspartsdirect.com to find out where the fan is if you feel it is necessary to replace it. Its not a tough job if you are handy. Their shipping is expensive so you might want to buy it locally.

Ariston fridge/freeser BCB31AA

Call out the warranty supplier. Where is the noise coming from? If no warranty, check the electrics to the compressor and fan. sometimes the noise is the fan. Also switch off overnight and leave doors open. When restarting, if the noise has gone it will have been the internal fan hitting on ice buildup.

Freezer is around 3 years old. When set at -17 degrees the freezer clicks very noisely, a relay operating I think. When the fast freeze button is pressed this clicking stops but the display reads -27...

In my opinion, since your going for the fast freeze mode, your freezer sets to its lowest operating temperature to fast tract the freezing process.

and about the noisy clicking sound it is probably a thermostat or relays depending on your system which starts and stop the compressor.

i think your freezer is just doing fine.

Hotpoint ffa91g fridgefreezer wont go below -5

Good day,
If your talking fahrenheit, that is well within it's limitations.
Why would you want it any colder. -5 is fine. 0 to 4 is considered normal.
R134A runs at -15 degrees. It is considered normal for the box (any box) to run 10 degrees higher than the refrigerant.
When R12 (freon) was used it ran at -21 degrees, and could maintain a box at -10, but those days are long gone.

If its freezing at the back that indicates refrigeration is good. it sounds like you have a thermostat control problem. Replace the thermostat.

Firdge freezer

This is caused by one of several things:

  • door left open
  • bad gasket
  • open liquids in fridge
  • dirty condenser radiator...clean it
  • low gas in refrigerant system
Defrost the unit completely and restart. If it happens again, suspect the last and get a service person in.

Servis fridgefreezer light

IT COULD BE A BAD LIGHT SWITCH, SOCKET OR BULB.
IF THE CONTROL IS ELECTRONIC, SOME REFRIGERATORS WILL SHUT DOWN THE LIGHTS IF THE DOOR IS LEFT OPEN TOO LONG.
BE SURE THE BULB IS SCREWED IN ALL THE WAY. SOMETIMES, THEY WILL WORK LOOSE.
