My machine is not hooked up to a computer. I only use it for fax and to make copies. It will print out faxes just fine and a test print comes out fine. It is just when I try to copy something it comes out crappy with only some of the document copied.

Check the baud rate of your transmissions. Slow them down to the slowest setting and send a test fax to a helpful person. Slowly increase the baud rate (communication data speed) and send the fax test. When the fax doesn't show up on the receive site, then step one baud rate speed back, and save the setting.
It could also be your fax that is faulty, or even the receive sites fax, also being faulty.
To test your copy-head, insert a document into your loading section of the fax and press copy. If the copy prints out fine, then you know the head is reading correctly.
It is also possible that the receiver fax (the other end) has a printhead failure.
do a quick check on 2 things. - Copy a document(put a printed page on document feeder and press Copy button) , has the Copy come ok? if copy is also blank that means toner/ink problem, needs to be replaced.
- check with your Fax receive Print settings. is any setting of econo mode/ contrast/brightness Off the track? If found any of such issue then Reset it or put it on average (middle).
basically if the fax is well kept, its dialing properties will remain ok. what you need to check is the quality of print out. to test the quality of print out just try to copy a sample document. if your fax is a thermal type, change the paper first before proceeding with copying. if your fax has a menu and help button try pressing the menu first before help for the fax to print a helplist.
