I bought used Nikon Coolpix Camera with no battery or card. I put new battery in but it will not power on

  • huntbc May 15, 2011

Sounds like it might be the disposable 2CR5 battery I bought?
Looks like I need to buy a Rechargeable LiOn, with charger don't you think?
Also is the fact there is no CF card in the camera a problem?
Bought the camera for $18.99, so I think it would be worth a few dollars in repairs if I can't fix it

As I mentioned in my previous email. I cleaned the copper terminals in the battery chamber, still no luck.

The camera was bought used and had no battery or CF Card.

I bought a disposable battery in the interim (an Energizer brand). The camera would still not power up. I have ordered rechargeable battery and charger of slightly higher m.amp hrs than the original spec. Do I also need to install a card to make it work, or should it fire up without one?

Hopefully the battery and charger should be here in a week.

Please get me the specs of the battery such as voltage output and mAH value so that I can tell you whether you have purchased the correct replacement. Also be aware that you have to fully charge the battery prior to first use,

Its ok it should work without the CF card but buying a battery with higher amp value is not advisable. Amp = Amperes(a unit of current) . More milli Amps than required well I don't think its a good idea. Make sure that the voltage rating is also not high or it will surely damage the camera!

The first thing to do is clean the battery terminals inside the camera. Make sure the new battery is charged. The following web blog details the things you can try to bring the camera back to life:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/11/simple-fix-for-dead-cameras-that-wont.html
If none of these things help, the on/off button could be bad, or many other things, and the unit will have to be serviced. Get an estimate, since the cost of repair can be high.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

How do I get the SDGC 8GB memory card to work for my Nikon s4100 coolpix camera?

You may need to format the card prior to first use. This should be in the menu system somewhere. Your manual should point you in the right direction.

I just bought a new battery for my Nikon CoolPix S560 and when I put the battery in, I am getting the message Memory card is write protected. How to I get rid of this?

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

I Purchased a new SDHC card from Argos which was 4 GB as the one that came with my Nikon coolpix 3700 is a 16mb I put this new one into my camera and the camera showed that you couldn't use this card,...

Your camera will accept a maximum SD card capacity of 1GB. It simply isn't capable of handling anything of a larger capacity and in particular is incompatible with the more technically advanced SDHC cards.

Your fix is to either replace your camera with a later model or to stick to using SD cards with a maximum 1GB capacity.

Trouble downloading pics from my Coolpix L100

Are your batteries fully charged? Direct Camera to PC transfer uses a lot of power. Some early L100s could not use rechargable batteries - unless you downloaded new firmware fron Nikon. That needs a card-reader. Once you have a card-reader, use this to download the pics, so that the PC supplies all the power.

Batteries Exhausted Message on Nikon Coolpix L18

How could I resist assisting someone with the handle 'Charm City'? What I would advise is getting some good quality 2300 mAH or 2500 mAh re-chargeable batteries - although all batteries have a nominal 1.5v output, not all can provide the sustained power necessary for the camera.

Coolpix 2200/3200 Battery Compatibility

The Coolpix 2200 / 3200 camera is designed to use 2 (two) AA type batteries. Due to Nikon’s advanced power management technology, two standard AA Alkaline batteries can provide more than 100 photographs. For better performance, please consider using Nikon EN-MH1 rechargeable batteries. These are available as an optional accessory at Nikon dealers and at The Nikon Mall Recently a new type of battery, the CR-V3, has been released to the market from several battery venders. The CR-V3 is similar in shape to two connected AA batteries and easily fits in your Coolpix camera compartment. Nikon has confirmed compatibility only with the following battery brands. Please use one of the following brands when using CR-V3 type batteries. Duracell Sanyo Panasonic Due to it’s unique design the Eveready Energizer® brand CR-V3 battery may not be compatible with the Coolpix 2200/3200 camera.
