GE Temperature control has no effect - food freezing

I've been reading the forums and cannot tell if I have the correct idea of what's wrong?

My refrigerator's digital control is set at 40. Digital display (on top) shows in the 20's most of the time and is freezing fruits and veggies. I unplugged it for a few days thinking something was frozen....well that didn't work.

I've been reading something about a damper, but when I click on various links of helpful posts it seems to show two different ones on the purchase sites? Also read about some other contraption for the veggie bin?

Browsing the net, it seems like this damper thing is a very common fault on the GE's so I'm "guessing" that's it. How hard is it to replace?

Post your email i will send you the service manual it could be a Thermistor this is what senses the temp and gives the reading back to the control to open or close the damper assby

GE ZIS420NX Refrigerator temp control not effective, food is freezing

you have a few things that could be wrong, a bad thermistor, a bad air defuser, or a bad main board. changing the thermistor could fix it but if not, i would call a pro that order the right part. lots of varibles.

I have a GE(PSS26MSTSS) Profile refrigerator. The temperature in the all the bins is much cooler than the set temperature. The food is freezing in those drawers. Is the damper that controls the air from...

thats because when you open the door ALL the cold air rushes out.(the bins stop this effect)use a thermometer in the middle bin and adjust the running temp accordingly, this will also stop your lettuce from freezing.

GE GSS25LGMA refrigirator/freezer refrigirator side is freezing

There is an electrically activated air dampener in the upper left back side of the refrigerator section which most likely has broken (in the open position), allowing cold air from the freezer to continue to enter the fresh foods section. Replace the dampener assembly.

GE Profile Side by Side is getting too cold on the fridge side.

I have a GE refrigerator with the same problem of my food freezing in the refrigerator. I spoke to an appliance part person and they sold me a temperature sensor for 20 bucks. They said it would be located in the control panel, but I took the control panel off and can't find the sensor. I'm now looking on yahoo answers to find out where the sensor is located.
