Dell Optiplex GX260 desktop-how to reset factory settings in BIOS

Am trying to fix my daughter's Dell Optiplex GX260. When I first got it, it took 22 minutes to boot to desktop. Discovered it had two operating systems on it, W2K Server AND Windows XP. Have no idea why/who did that (some so-called repair guy). Formatted hard drive, did clean install of W2K Pro and updated (flashed) BIOS (from Dell A02 to A09). Now it takes 9½ minutes to boot to desktop, so we're making progress. Have a Hiren's Boot Disk & got a message on that where it said L1 cache was disabled. Is this what's making it run so slooooow?? Nowhere in BIOS screens can I find a place to reset factory default settings...anyone know where this is in the BIOS? Please, need your help. Thanks in advance!

Your problems all are related to the Operating system configuration and the compatibilty of the system - Running server operating system in any Pc enviroment makes it to boot slowly only

In your case you cannot set cache from your bios because you may not find that option to enable or disable L1 or L2 cache because dell bios is not that much user freindly.

Cache memory is the main player in all computers for their speed "how much cache that must speed " L1 cache is the primary cache and the fastest to enable it you should find some third party tool for over clocking. System repair utilities, Doctor Diagonstic, PC Doctor a test it will change the present slow configuration to a fast one by changing its values which manually only can be done by a very good expert..

How can I use External USB DVD rom for Boot to dell optiplex GX260 series.

You have to change the boot settings in bios (hit F2 as you see the Dell Logo) and in the boot menu look for one that says boot from USB, or external CD drive, and move it to the top of the list so it will boot before the hard drive does.

Optiplex GX280 will not boot past post

Worth a shot is to put the bios flash on floppy and see if you can get it to boot from that and if you are very lucky you may be able to re-flash.

If you did take a backup on the last attempt try to get that version of the bios back in first as that was a known good bios.

How do i restore my dell settigns back to factory settings

If you mean BIOS setting, then enter the BIOS, choose Restore Defaults.
If you mean your windows installation, use the Operating System reinstallation CD from DELL (the green CD, for Windows XP). After operating system installed, use your driver CD (usually the blue CD from DELL). If you don't have the CD, please contact Dell support center to get the CD (charges may apply).

Hard drive problems with Optiplex GX260

You should be able to manually enter the drive perameters into bios. That should let you boot. Or boot it up with a boot disk.
