You can actually scan directly to an application(ex. MS Word application). Also, make sure the Lexmark OCR scan software is installed on your computer (the software is available on the install disc that came with your printer).
1. Load an original document into the ADF or on the scanner glass. 2. Press Scan Mode. 3. Press ? or ? repeatedly until the MS Word application is highlighted. 4. Press check button. 5. Press Start Color or Start Black to start scanning.

Change scanned doc. to go to word not pdf

Depends on the document. If there are images and the type is handwritten. First scan the type as OCR scan so it scans only the text, a new window should appear for editing...nothings perfect...
Then scan the page with the images as a whole as doc file. Hope this helps, not all scanners are built the same, just have to read the instructions and features before buying.

How do you scan a picture to your computer?

use the photoshop software and open it go to the menu and click scan doc or just scan.
image would be displayed select the wanted of you doc to scan and click scan button.

When I am scanning a document how do I get it to save as a PDF or a DOC?

Scanners can only save a scanned image as an image file, not a digital document file such as .doc or .pdf. You may be able to create a .pdf from the image file it saves by using something like Cute PDF writer. You can get it here:

Lexmark 8300 series will not fax. Will only print. Message says a component is missing in manage fax etc. Have downloaded and re0instaLLED SEVERAL TIMES AS SUGGESTED BUT STILL WILL NOT DO ANYTHING BUT...

I believe you'll need to install the Image, TWAIN drivers

Scans are too large...

while scanning try reducing the DPI of the scans. this will make the image smaller in size but it will effect the picture quality very little. but do keep in mind that the dpi must be atleast 70 for better picturization
