Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

I have a 27" Panasonic TV. I bought it used and it is more than 5 or 6 years old. Most of times I have no problem with it but some times I feel jumping in the picture mostly in the bottom of window. I see sometimes that 2 or 3 centimeter of bottom of window is removed like a curve. Is it because of the wireless router that is working close to it or this TV has problem? SOURCE: Panasonic TV Shuts off by itself

I had the same problem , Good sign of a cold solder or cracked trace.

On my PT51HX41 after a long check with a magnifying glass I found the problem on the main board just below the AC daughter board there is a Blue rectangular box (relay R801) and it had two cracked solder joints.

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

SOURCE: panasonic projection tv model # pt56lcz7 no picture, bulb out?

My system is doing the same thing... runs for ten minutes an then no piture and no sound, I just get a blinking green light.

I was thinking heat was the problem, I opened it and vacumed it out. This did nothing.

Now , is it the powersupply or the lamp? Would a bad lamp also cut the sound?

5 blinks - check the 5v SOS D Board since the set is a plasma.

Your best best is to obtain a quote from an authorised Panasonic service centre on the likely cost to replace that board if required, then you can make a decision afterwards - to either go ahead with the repair, or cut your losses and purchase a new set if the latter option turns out to be cheaper.

Always ask about and insist on extended warranties whenever you buy a new TV such as plasmas. These will cover you against expensive repairs, and having to buy a new one each time the old one breaks down in the future.

These days manufacturers lean toward board replacement in plasma and LCD TVs rather than individual components, as it is quicker and easier to replace a whole board than to try and fix an old faulty one. It's also tidier in terms of layout.

We Have a plasma 42 in panasonic tv that is less than 2 years old. It suddenly popped and now longer works Do you have any advice on how to troubleshoot?

i would contact panasonic and complain that you bought an expensive electric device that should have lasted longer than two years. You might be suprised at how accomodating they can be. Just quote consumer rights to them and dont take no for an answer

My 15 yr old panasonic tv turns itself on and off, why?

My thoughts is that after all these years one of the solder joints has cracked and there is enough current that builds up that it will jump accross the crack and work for a short time and then the componenet heats back up and 'well' off it goes.
15 years old. - you got some great use out of this TV.
Maybe time to look to get a new one - These types of TV's were only designed to work for 10 year and then throw them away. Be aware that the new ones are only made to last 3 to 4 years. I know - I don't like it either. They cost a lot more than that Panasonic did when it was new.

A month ago our house was struck by lightning and The Insurance company wants to know what the price of the Television. Or what it is worth today. He purcheased the TV about 4or5 years ago. the tv was...

$150 usd- $177usd. SEE HERE
$200 SEE HERE

Quote from the link...
" My Bottom Line

Considering the price, I am pleased as punch with this purchase. Expecting to receive only basic features, the Orion shouldn't disappoint. Audio buffs should look elsewhere, but at a purchase price of approximately $150 for a 27" TV, one isn't looking to the STV2763A as a high tech set. I'm sure I'm forgetting certain specs here, but this my low tech review of a low tech set. I'm happy with the Orion, a nice balance of value and price."

Amount Paid (US$): 177.00

Since it is 4-5 years old look to get less than half from the insurance co.

Sharp 27" tv

You got the right idea, use the ext.imput on you tv and use the vcr to change the channels, you can check the solder conections in the tuner ,ussually the ground gets loose after a while but if you are not too familiar with tv service and dont want put any money in this set use your vcr.If the quality of the picture is still good then is worth keeping it.Let Us know if you need more information.
