I cant get gy lap top to recognise my maxtor3200 external hard drive any ideas would be appreciated

contact FRYs or the HDD manufacturer . The HDD may be bad !

please use ontrack easy recovery software or NTFS undelete http://ntfsundelete.com/ if anything else fails. this program saved my life in similar situation. hope it will help you too

possible solution

you will need the installation cd for I believe it is windows vista and do a repair install as per the instructions , also if you have any external hard drives / usb memory sticks etc dis connect them before doing this.

Ok. Well this is easy! your hard drive is formatted in NTFS, ps3 wont recognize that. it needs to be fat32 find an XP machine not a vista machine.

download Swiss Army Knife and format the drive in fat32. you will loose ALL information in your external. you will need to back up anything you want to save and put it back after the format.

Boot your system with external drive unconnected, then go to add new hardware. then plug in maxtor and follow guide, if this is not of any help then unplug and replug drive IE switch off replug and switch on your Maxtor. After a while when all the software gets together all will be harmonious and groovy.

There may not be enough power from the cardbus to run it. That bus is very low current to power it up so you will need the power cord.

Try reinstalled the card drivers.
