This not good, hook a spare monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture okay! the LCD panel on the laptop will need to be replaced. But if both show the same symptom the video graphics card is bad normally built into the motherboard.
you would have to look for someone selling it for parts on ebay or craigs list. and you wont fond a manual to tell you how to do this. you will have to take the trim off the monitor and then take the screws out and remove the back light cable andthen insert the new one and reconnect the back light and insert the screws and the trim. around the trim there will be rubber dots pry them off and the screws are under there.
It sounds like you might have a fan problem that overloaded your HDD, if this is the case you might need to get a whole new HDD because the information can be fried. If possible, backup your information and install it on the new HDD if that's the case.
I am a laptop/PC technician and this problem is probably being caused by either a loose or damaged screen cable inside the laptop, a faulty or overheating graphics card or an incorrect graphics driver.
Unfortunately without actually seeing it I can't say which it is, but I would first off get a PC or laptop specialist to check to see if the graphics card driver software is correct, as this is easy and quick to sort out if this is your problem.
If this isn't the problem then I would just backup all your documents/files and return the laptop to Sony under warranty as a hardware fault could be expensive to repair.
